A memorial to all of our little invert friends :'(

There is something very similar to this on the Betta board but I wasn't too worried about it until well today. Post your memorial of your little invert buddy who has passed on recently or in the past..

I was doing a water change today when i noticed that Kappa (my bamboo shrimp) came floating out without a fight usually he would fight the current give up and run the other side of the tank. Today as i poured the new water into the tank I noticed that he was just kinda sitting there and was bobbing up and down in the current created by the bucket. I also noticed that he had red lines in his shell where the semi hinges were when I stuck my hand in the tank he always liked to crawl on the back and eat some 'rare' bacteria (well atleast to him) when i put my hand in there i didn't even move so i grabbed him with the net and noticed i didn't even get a fight as I watched more and more I noticed that he looked like something that would be served at Red Lobster so he died how I don't know but from the redness on him I'm guess it was hot water but the water I added wasn't that hot the temp didn't raise at all so it was about the same temp its around 78 F so idk i will probly get another one when i move over to my new dorm room but if it was some kind of parasite or disease let me know i want to take care of it before i get another

I am so sorry Inari. I do not know much about shrimp but I do doubt that it was hot water so do not beat yourself up. the temperature of 78 degrees would not hurt anything.

I will be thinking of you. Please let me know if I can help.

thanx rose I appreciate it I wonder if he died of something in the water or some such thing....i've been treating with amquel + and novaqua both r by the same company one is a general conditioner and the other takes out heavy metals and helps replace the slime coat

thanx again

Re: A memorial to all of our little invert friends :'(

If they were products not safe for invertebrates, they would have it specified on the label. I use Amquel+ for the high nitrate levels in the tap water at my house in the fall and winter months. During the summer I use Bottled Spring Water as the ground water gets chemicals from all the irrigation and stuff about here. You would think it would be okay but for some reason, the water is not as good in the summer and we even all stop drinking it around here. It doesn't even look good.

Sorry about your little crustacean friend. I dunno...the sad sad truth is this: all of us have lost sometimes multiple creatures in spite of what we thought and were told was the best available care. Sometimes the little things just die and we don't know of what. It could have been an injury as well and that would not have been your fault.

I think bamboo shrimp molt so could he have been picked on when he molted or maybe he was older than you thought? Sorry to hear that though.

I'm thinking he was older than i thought he was just because of the his size he was over 2.5 inches long i think he was pushing about 3.5 - 4 inches so he was probly ancient either way I have another one and well he is pretty shy right now any way thanx all
