questions about crabs

I've kept red crabs before in my indoor koi pond before and they lasted about 6 months. I was changing the water and I think too much chlorine got into the pond and they died. May be they are more sensitive to the chlorine than the fish and I've learned a valuable lesson. The crabs are about 2.5 inches across including the legs. I don't know the official name for these crabs because they are not fiddlers nor are they the smaller red pincher crabs. Any body know if there are any true fresh water crabs? And if I decide to keep the fiddlers... can I place a small plate of salt/water on the middle island where they can up to get to salt/water. Can they find it The pond is about 5'x8' and the middle island is about 3'x3 with some bare branches that serve as a way to get up to the island.

Welcome to Fishlore! I moved your post to its own space, so it gets attention. Often questions like yours will get lost if posted in another thread.

There are some freshwater crabs, but I don't know that there are any available in the aquarium industry. The Maltese freshwater crab is one true freshwater crab, but it's threatened or endangered.
The red claw crab and fiddler are both brackish/SW crabs. They need constant access to water with a significant salinity or their bodies will be stressed. A dish on a center island simply wouldn't provide them with enough salinity.

Any type of brackish crab also requires a way to get out of the water for a bit. A picture would help identify your crabs... I have to laugh at this conversation... Anyways, back to serious matters. As SDS said, most aquarium crabs are brackish and die within a few months of being in pure salt water.

Edit: Fresh water...
