How do invertabrates effect your tank?

I am currently researching to set up my first tank. It's a 30 gallon and I would like to know if shrimp and clams should be counted the same as fish. For instance; for my tank I would like 1 Flame Dwarf Gourami, 2 Hi Fin Lyre tail, 1 Red Cobra tail Guppy, 1 Lemon Cobra Guppy, 1 Neon Blue Tux Guppy, and 6 Cherry Barbs. According to my information, that's about 29 inches of fish there, which would be near my max. Could I still add 1 Freshwater Clam, and 2 Red Cherry shrimp to help keep the tank clean?

I'm not sure about the clam, or even if they are compatible with those fish, but the shrimp should be fine, they take up much less bioload than fish... 12 shrimp would be about the same as 1 inch of fish I believe

Wow!!! So I could even have a few more shrimp then? What about Lobsters, the Hammer Cobalt Blue one looks stunning. Does it take much bioload?

the lobsters eat fish, so i don't think it would be a good idea.

The "lobsters" are actually crayfish... I wouldnt put them in with your fish... fish is a natural food source for them and they will eat all of the guppies for dinner! They also take up a normal bioload for their inch size just like fish do.

I read on here somewhere recently that a freshwater clam counts as five inches of fish. Plus they don't really do anything, but just sit there.

SHRIMP! I would definately go with a bunch of shrimp. They are cool and fun to watch when they molt
