Water Beetles.

Does any one else have a water beetle that lives in their tank?

We have one that flew in and has been living there for about three weeks.
Someone on another forum said to take it out because it would kill the fish but she eats zuccinni and flakes (sometimes she uses her little front 'paws' to put the food in her mouth - so cute!) and she doesn't seem interested in the fish at all.

Here are links to some pics my daughter took of her.

That's too amazing!

Actually it's mostly the larvae that kill fish - the larvae of the dragonfly for instance.

Yours looks like a Water Boatman, a rare non-biting water beetle.

How do dragonfly larvae kill fish? Do they just straight out eat them or are they more like a parasite?

The larvae are voracious predators. They grab and hold prey with spines on their front legs and eat them.
