Ok so I took some pictures of my pleco for the pleco thread eating cucumbers and some of my tanks to put in my tank thread. When I plug my camera into the usb port in my computer it doesn't recognize it and then if I just double check and see if I can load my photos onto my computer the screen goes blue and says an error has occured and blah blah blah. Essentially what it does is it shuts my computer down and the only way to fix it is by unpluging the computer from the battery backup, that's the only way to fix it. Should I plug the usb cord into the computer before I plug it into my camera? Am I doing something wrong? If anybody has any ideas please let me know. If you need some more info let me know.

I'm not positive beacuse you blah blah blah'd over the error message but you may need to update your drivers for the camera or your usb portl may be close to the on/off switch and tripping it. I had a computer that did that once. It would work fine unless something had to come in or out of the usb, then it'd restart. I'd it maybe one of those 2 issues, but again, not having seen the error message or the computer, I can't be sure.
How old are your computer and camera?
What Operating system are you using?

Ok the blah blah blah part is something we get that my dad doesn't know what it is. It's a blue screen with an error message with some computer codes and all. My dad works for at&t and doesn't really know exactly what it means. If I get it again I see how much I can write down in here. I'm not sure it's a problem with the drivers. I've used a travel drive and had no problems on it and my brother and I use it for our mp3 players. I know it's at least a usb 2.0 It is close to the on/off switch but this doesn't just shut the computer down it shuts it down with an error and you can't turn it off on the hardrive, you have to go to the power source. Computer is about a year old, it is a windows xp media expierence, camera is about 6 months old, it's a cheap 10$ pharamcy digital camera that I had bought to use for myself since my dad takes his time in buying technology equipment and right now he doesn't want to buy a good one because he doesn't feel a need for it so it's a cheap camera. We also have a windows xp professional about 2years old and it also used to get the screen except randomly not like this.

Hmm, the blue screen of death. I remember the type of error that you're getting from when i used windows NT. does the error code have numbers starting with 0x? If you can get the error numbers that it shows, the microsoft knowlegebase probably has an article or 2 at least on it.

Agreed... Write the error code down.. Then google search that exact number and see what it says.. Honestly it is the easiest way to figure out why it is happening. I am betting you are running windows 95, 98, or even worse ME..

No It's xp professional. We have a 98 upstairs also but we only have older games and word on that. Both computers downstairs are xp's, just different versions.

Oh man blue screen on XP is typically a bad bad bad thing... But I would still like to see what the error is...

Have you tried pluggin the camera into a different USB port ?? --- You should ALWAYS plug in the USB cord BEFORE you turn on the camera.. Just so ya know.. You can also fry the camera's memory card by unplugging it while the computer is still connected to the camera. So always tunr the camera off before you unplug the USB cord..

Of course you don't have to and may get away with it.... For a while at least...

hmm Ok, I'll try plugging the usb cord into the computer then the camera, that was my best guess. I safely disconnect the camera now that I know, my friend told me yesterday and when I got a mp3 player yesterday I read about it in the manual, never knew that My brother has been doing it for 3 years now with his mp3 player and he luckily hasn't had any screwups. IF I get the blue screen again I will copy it down, hopefully I won't though but if I do I'll be sure to let you know, I'll try it out tomorrow when I get home from school.(only 11 more days )

What does the blue screen tend to mean, is there any sites on it?

I have XP, and I was having problems where almost every time I plugged something into one of my USB ports...whether it be my digital camera, my iPod, or my external hard drive...I got the dreaded Blue Screen Of Death. I Googled the error message like crazy but couldn't find a fix that seemed to work. I tried updating drivers, and nothing worked. However, I haven't had that problem for awhile. *crosses fingers* I'm wondering if somewhere along the way, I did do a fix that actually worked.

Like was mentioned, I would definitely write down the error message and Google it.

As for what the Blue Screen Of Death means...it could mean lots of things. Getting it so often made me really nervous, so I got the external drive and started backing up my stuff, just in case. I had mentioned the problem to one of my boyfriend's relatives who used to work with computers regularly. He told me that as long as everything else seems fine that I shouldn't really be worrying about it, more of just an inconvenience in having to reboot when it happens. I wouldn't write off your problems completely though, it could really be a problem, so you should at least try to find a fix.

HOPEFULLY...I'll be buying a new computer early next year and starting fresh though.
