| Our New Oscar Here is a pic of our new oscar. We haven't named him yet. You can see that he's pretty tiny. He's going to have to grow a little bit before I put him in with my JD's in the 90g. |

| Im doing find. I know what it is like to wait on a fish. I have had this 75 gallon empty for two months almost waiting to be setup for cichlids. Its killing me. I love oscars, and maybe one day I will get one. I just dont have the proper setup right now. |

| OMG I'm jealous. Beautiful fish you have there. I almost got one for my 45g when I first started picking out fish for it but I discovered that it would be torture for the oscar after he started growing (especially since it's a 45g TALL, only 12" wide so the poor thing would have trouble turning around). Maybe one day. . . |

| Thanks, everyone He is going to be one spoiled fish and I'm really looking forward to watching him grow. It's going to be really fun because the 90g is in the kitchen which is a pretty active room.
I like that name, Shawnie. I'll see what the princess says when she wakes up. She's pretty excited about him, too. She wasn't with me when I bought him, so she was pretty surprised at how small he is, especially with her knowing how big he's going to get.
I know he was at the LFS for about two weeks (I've been watching him closely hoping no one would take him home) while I got the tank set up, but with his size, does anyone have a rough guess at how old he is? |

| I LOVE OSCARS. Baby Oscars are my favorite. I wish someone would develop a dwarf oscar. That would be great, smaller tank, less mess, same personality. Get to work on that! |

They grow FAST. It won't take long to get to six inches then move on his way to his full size. They are such voracious eaters. How long is he now? |

Chomp, chomp, num, num.
I would say he's around 1". So in maybe a month or two, he'll be ready for the 90g? |

| I looked around a bit. It seems to be the consensus that they grow about an inch a month until they get 9 inches, then it's slow growing until they reach full size. Oh those convict fry are probably just hiding... in his belly. |

| Thanks, everyone! He's on my NW cichlid mixture and gets bloodworms and brine shrimp a few times a week. When he first went into the tank, he ate all of the convict fry in it, so maybe that gave him a "protein growth" boost.
I'm really hoping in the next month, he'll be big enough to go in the 90g. My male JD is decent sized, so I have to make sure my baby boy won't fit in his mouth. |
