| Holy smoke, Shawnie! Nice pickup!!!
The bn looks like he's had too much pizza
On the electric blue, I'm guessing Sciaenochromis fryeri. Did I see red on his ventral fins?
The baby looks like a young Julidochromis regani female (the Karilani Is). Do you have those in your tank? |

| Cool fish Shawnie. I suspect the bottom fish is actually Julidochromis Transcriptus. Transcriptus have two rows of spots like yours, Marlieri have three rows. It is possible that it is Marlieri & the marking just havn't developed fully yet. |

| The last pic you posted is definitley an Auratus. The bottom pic in your first post could be a juvie Auratus but it sure looks like a Julidochromis species. |

Are you sure the baby didn't "hitchike" from somewhere else? If I was a baby fish and I saw the opportunity to end up in one of your tanks, I'd do whatever I had to do to get there He is a cute little thing.
When researching, I went online to look at melanochromis, but the julidochromis species were looking more like the baby. Quote:

Maybe the baby is a hybrid Or maybe the babies have the more pointed noses like the juli's? I've never bred Malawi mbuna, so I'm not sure what the babies are supposed to look like. |

. | no hitchhikers....nothing news been added unless I add them....theres 6-7 of these fry that sneak out of the subtrate to eat...ill see if i can get more pics of them at some point...but im surely baffled about the Julidochromis |

| Have you gotten any new females recently that were carrying eggs? I've known some to end up with the odd egg from other species. Kind of like when the Cuckoo Catfish slips it's eggs in with breeding cichlids except the mother picks up someone else's egg by mistake rather than being decieved into it. Very rare though. The chances of two species actually breeding close enough together at the exact same time for this to happen are slim to say the least. Could also have come in a bag with fish you recieved & it just went unnoticed. |

| Looks like I was wrong about it being a Juliedochromis. I've spent a little while trawling around looking for pics of Auratus fry & juvenilles & emailed the pic to a friend that has bred them for a fair while now. He says it is an Auratus juvenille about 3 months old. According to him the black spots will fade where they are joined between the rows to form the two lines on the Auratus flanks. I take his word on these things as he is really really good with mbuna. |

Yeah CB looks different to me too. That's why I wanted to see the top side. But he is definitely a Bristlenose, just different to what we're used to seeing.
