| My 10G Bedroom Tank Well, I just figured I'd post up a couple quick pictures of my 10G bedroom tank. It currently has three female guppies, two male guppies, a female VT betta, and two peppered corycats. Here's a few bad pictures of them!
The two males with two females:
My grid-like male:
My other male, who I'm now thinking may be an endler hybrid (it's hard to tell in these pictures because he's so quick, but his tail actually is "split", but the center is a clear area. He was the only one like this in the tank at Petsmart and I just knew that he was special so I had to have him):
My males together:
My VT betta craning around to get a better view of the camera:
Her leaving after she'd explored:
The not-so-pregnant-looking female:
My more-pregnant-but-I'm-not-sure-when-they're-due females:
One of the corycats:

| Great pics. The yellow guppy male, I have one exactly like that and I know the pic doesn't do justice since the coloring is so much richer than the pic reveals. I wonder how you managed to get those pics, my guppies would not sit still for a second and all the pics are blurry flashes of color ...lol. |

| Well, I found that my fish all seem to LOVE the LED light on the camera that comes on as it's focusing. That light would come on and they'd all scramble to the front to see what was going on, especially the females, haha. Believe me, that "photoshoot" took a good 20 minutes, and I'd like to consider myself a decently established photographer (though fish have never been a subject of mine in the past), so it wasn't as easy as shooting a few random pictures like this may lead you to believe, heh.
So my one male is definitely an endler? There were two like him at Petsmart in the male fancy guppy tank and my girlfriend and I noticed them because of their scissor-looking tail. The other one didn't look very healthy though, so that's why I only bought this one. Dumb question, I'm assuming that endlers and guppies can interbreed, correct? I think both of these males have awesome colorings so it'll be sweet to get some babies that look like that.
It's funny, because after reading through this forum, I decided that I'd LOVE to find endlers in person as I've never even seen them before and I think they're gorgeous, and it turns out I got one by mistake, haha.
You're right though about the pictures not doing them justice. The yellow male (still nameless) is absolutely stunning in person, and the betta, Koi, has tons of bright blue/turquoise that come out in the light

| Endlers and guppies can interbreed. However, I think you just have a split tail guppy. I'm pretty sure I've seen those before, although I'm not too experienced with guppies. |

| In my limited experience, it looks like my Lyre Tail Guppy. Looks like it's fins have been nipped, their tails should be longer and pointed.
Your betta is very pretty. Does she always have those stress lines?
I'm sorry, I know you didn't ask, but imo, she shouldn't be with the guppies.
The lines indicate that something is bothering her. Most bettas don't make good community fish and should be in a 5g of their own. |

| Which lines are you talking about? The betta's had these same exact markings since I got her, and I can assure you that she seems to have no problem at all with the guppies.
And see, I'd never seen or even heard of a lyretail guppy before, but that's what I immediately thought of when I saw him. Then as I did more research online, it appears that neon colors and what look to be "paint splashes" are two of the traits of endlers, both of which my guppy has prominently, though it's hard to photograph that. His tail is indeed a little bit nipped at the edges, it was like that but worse when I got him, and he's already starting to heal

If it's a wild betta, I beleive the fems have lines. |

| I've had her for about 2 weeks now, and she came from a little cup at Petsmart. I've seen how aggressive bettas act in tanks with other fish before and this one is just incredibly docile. Of course, in our big family room tank, we had a male VT betta among tons of other fish for a couple years and he was also fine. I guess a lot of it just depends on the individual betta? And you're referring to the blackish lines on her sides right? If so, yep, she's had those since I got her, so I really don't think it's any sort of stress.

| nice tank, male bettas usually don't get along with gupys but females are usually very peaceful. just to throw that out there. |

| Yep, as I said before, I did a lot of research before making this tank, and everything I read said that there's a better chance of a female betta getting along with other fish, though it still winds up depending on the particular fish for its tolerance. Koi, the betta, seems to be getting along just fine with the guppies. She swims around with them, eats the same food as them, and sleeps nestled up on plant leaves right next to them at night
As an aside, my biggest female (the one that's really dark in the one picture) is looking REALLY pregnant now. She's really looking boxy from underneath as well, so I'm thinking that maybe she's close to having babies? I keep trying to look to see if I can see the fry inside her (I've read that when you can see their eyes, it's just about time), but she moves too quickly for me to get a good look. I have a little breeder tank that I could put in the tank, but I don't wanna stress her out by separating her from her buddies. Should i just let nature take its course and if she has the babies when I'm not around, I'll save them and move them if they don't all get eaten first? This'll be my first time ever having babies so I'm nervous, haha.

| If you want to try and keep the babies I would get some Java Moss (saved some of my fry), Floading plants or guppy grass and then let nature take it's course. Sometimes if you move a fish it will stress them too much and cause them to loose their babies or get sick themselves. Then again, sometimes not. But if you have places for the fry to hide the strong and smart ones will survive. Good luck. |

| Well, I have multiple large silk plants that have upper leaves that float across the surface of the water. I've not been able to find good-looking java moss at my local fish stores and the stuff they do have I wouldn't trust because it's turning brown and just looks unhealthy. So do you think any of them will be OK with multiple large leaves that are floating all around the surface?

| Well, I had some free time today so I decided to clean the aquarium's hood and I found that the one bulb (sadly it's an incandescent hood ) was utterly shot. That's fine though, because then it dawned on me that this would be a great time to upgrade to fluorescent lighting!
After about 30 minutes of work with getting one of the old bulbs out (the base had somehow fused itself to the holder, even though the bulbs were only a few months old) my 10G is now rocking compact fluorescent lighting I'll have to grab some pictures sometime this week.

| Hello Mr. and Mrs. 2Focusd. Welcome aboard
Great photos and beautiful fish. Thanks for sharing them with us.
I too am a bit concerned about the lines in the female betta. The reason being, she could have had the stress lines from being in the little cup (or even another community tank possibly) for who knows how long and then being placed into a community tank. I don't know that the fish has had the opportunity and time to show her true colors.
If I'm way off base here, my sincerest apologies. Just keep an eye on her is all I'm asking She's a beautiful gal but I have a feeling she'd be even more beautiful in a home of her own.
Please keep us posted and again Welcome to Fish Lore.
Have fun and enjoy the site.

| Wow, you guys are adamant about me putting Koi in a tank of her own, haha. She's fine, I can assure you. In fact, the "lines" that you're referring to in the pictures are already gone, and they were probably coming out when I took the pictures because I was right up against the aquarium taking pictures for 15 minutes

| Well, I woke up this morning to feed the fish and I thought that I saw something scurry into my big floating plant. I take the hood off and upon closer inspection, I see that it's a baby! I run down and grab the net and the breeder tank and after I catch him, I wind up seeing three more little guys (or girls) in the tank. These guys look to be more than newborn (they're about as long as the nail on my pinky finger and already look like mini guppies) and were SUPER quick and VERY good at hiding in my plants. I figure that they may have still been OK just running loose in the tank, but I decided to give them a better chance by putting them in the breeder tank anyway. They're eating crushed-up flake food and so far seem to be good, though I think they're annoyed that they're in a little tank, haha.
