I cant seem to take pics of any of the fry i get

The best way I found to take pictures of any fish is to use a low exposure setting on the camera. An alternative is to actually film them, then just take out the frames you want from the avi file.

Digital Canon Power Shot
I know our old one I had to zoom in a little bit to get a better focus. If you zoomed in all the way with just the optical, it would be blurry and if you left it at min. zoom, you couldn't see the fry.

Digital Nikon L100
Maybe I just didn't play with the settings on the Canon enough, but this one has more specific settings for close-ups. Still did a partial zoom with "close-up" selected and came out with a clear shot of our not so small fry (about 2" now).

Hopefully this is somewhat helpful and understanding.
