| I've Been Keeping a Few Secrets I've been keeping a few secrets for a few weeks.
I "rescued" five goldfish from a woman who had raised them from fry. She was looking for a good home for them and spoke with several people that she didn't feel comfortable re-homing them with. I take it as a compliment that she wanted me to be their forever home. They came with two 29g tanks, but I thought they'd be happier in the 55g. I used both the substrate and the river rocks and decorations that they were used to, so it kinda "divides" the tank, but they seem happy.
SWilkins was kind enough to share several babies with us. Their pics are attached. I couldn't get the baby peppered corys or the blue JD male to cooperate with the camera. The jewel cichlids from a few weeks ago are also playing hide and go seek with the camera. They hide and the camera can't seek them.
We also discovered two platy fry in the tropical community tank. We're growing them out for Shelby's tank.
We have one JD fry that SWilkins was kind enough to share with us. We had four, but lost three. The small tank on the counter is a 10g. We named the remaining fry "Cuddles". He's the little black dot and the bottom right of the pic. When he grows up, we have a 55g waiting for him.
In addition, we have I think around 30 guppy fry. The pic of the guppy tank shows two nets. The net on the left is where the babies are. The net on the right is in case I discover more. We didn't want the guppies or endlers in the same tank with the angels, so they're in a bare bottom tank until we get Shelby's tropical community tank up and running.
Finally, my very first convict spawn from about 6 weeks ago is showing up on camera fairly well. We're keeping 8 to grow out, but we'll be re-homing six probably in the spring, so feel free to pm me if you're interested. If we don't find homes for them, we do have extra tanks. |

Good job!
Carol | Thanks, my daughter is a guppy fanatic, but I really enjoy having them in the house. We still need to figure out where her tank is going to be, so we can get them in their final home. Quote:

She says I need intervention, but she's also glad they keep me out of trouble and that I enjoy taking care of them so much. She's just praying I never get really sick. Although, my daughter can feed every tank in this house and knows what each tank needs.
Thank you for the compliment, we're proud of our happy, healthy finned babies . Once I started breaking up the water changes over a few days, it's really become an easy routine. |

Since these are goldfish and not koi, I thought they were compatible for an actual tank and that the 55g would be good for them. The woman I got them from said they were fantail goldfish.
Since you have goldfish experience, what will they require? I do have a friend with an actual goldfish pond as a possibility, but if I need to set up a 75g for them, I can do that as well. They are two years old right now. I have no problems upgrading them, just please let me know what they'll require so I can start making arrangements. |

| Fancy goldifsh will get to about 9". I have them in my outdoor pond that are that big now and are only about two years old. But things grow bigger in ponds because they can graze on algae and what ever else is in there all day long plus we feed them. Just keep a close eye on your ammonia levels. Goldfish are very messy fish and poop and pee a lot which will raise the ammonia in your tank. It's good that you know someone with a pond if you need it. I don't know what you're feeding them now but you may want to get some floating pellets for them. Good luck and hope all goes well. |

Good luck and hope all goes well. | We kept the filter media and substrate wet during the move and set everything up from their old tank, but they're on daily "ammonia watch" for a month to be safe. For the past two weeks, we haven't seen any, but we're doing daily tests for another two weeks to be sure.
I do want to "seed" two new filters, since the filters they came with are pretty old, but everything else has gone wonderful.
Thanks, Whisper |
