Also three days ago I moved all my Gymnogeophagus into 2 tanks for their cool down period for the winter. The tank so far has gone from 79degrees down to 72degrees. I think Saturday I will block the heater vent in that room and hopefully those two tanks will get down to around 60-63degrees. I am going to try something new this year with one of the species and see how it goes. Last year I did 3 months at the cooler temperature, this year I am going to take one group after 6 weeks and warm them back up to try and get a spawn. Leave them at the higher temp for 2-3 weeks then cool them back down for the remainder of winter. Then bring them back up to normal temp with the rest of the groups. Basically I am hoping to trigger two spawns rather than just one.
Here are the Gymno's I have this year.
Gymnogeophagus n. sp. Blue Neon "Valentines"
Gymnogeophagus Australis "Rio Uruguay"
Gymnogeophagus cf. Gymnogenys "Arroyo Yerbalito"
Gymnogeophagus Labiatus "Rio Olimar"
Gymnogeophagus n. sp. Paso Pache "Rio Santa Lucia"
Hopefully in the spring I get spawns from all the species, we shall see.
