Maingano tank

I just rescaped the 4ft....scuse the browinsh tinge, the wood has decided to leach tannins again, thats what i get for letting it fully dry for 12 months, ah well it'll settle soon enough.

Hello Alasse Beautiful tank! Thanks so much for sharing. Carbon will help to remove the tannins if you aren't currently using it. Thanks for sharing your photo!

Thanx all

A colony of Maingano live in there, and lots of young BN.

The tannins will lower the pH some, not the best for cichlids, but hopefully it wont do it for long, as it was previously in another tank for 12 months and stopped leaching after a month, just i let it dry out fully, until it fully sweels again, it will leach unfortunately.

Thanks guys

Update:
The piece of wood is finally settling down with releasing tannins. Only slight tinge now, so shouldn't be long before it stops altogether.

I've finally got around to putting a black background on the tank, i think it looks far better.

Let me know what you think

That looks awesome! Black background is great for bringing out the color of Malawi cichlids.

Thanx guys

The piece of wood i found, as i do with most of the wood i use, when ya have 14 tanks buying is just far too expensive *L* Though occassionally i'll see an unusal piece i just have to have and will buy.

I noticed a few people using clay pots in their tanks. Can you tell me why or where this idea came from? thanks

Why i use them is because they are cheap, look good, fish like them & they can make great hiding spots As to where the idea came from, no idea, but whoever originally thought of it needs a medal *L*

They're also a great place for cichlids to spawn IME.
