My 36 gallon bowfront!

So my tank is pretty much done and fully stocked. I wanted to post here for everyone to see one because it wouldn't be possible without all the help and info I have received from this awesome forum and two because I am very proud of it. I am most proud of the fact that one, this is my first aquarium that was 'created' and setup from the start all by myself. When I was younger I always had smaller aquariums but since I was young and irresponsible, and spoiled, my father maintained them...I just got to enjoy them. Now I fully understand the maintenance and upkeep and have a great appreciation for this hobby and still can't get enough! And yes, there are currently two filters running as I am building up the beneficial bacteria in my new wet/dry sump that you can see in the 3rd pic. I even built and painted the stand...yay! I can't wait to get a bigger aquarium way down the road! Hope you all enjoy!

Thank you so much for all the wonderful and kind comments. I wish the pictures did it justice...it's hard to even see the bubble curtain in the background. Yes the driftwood is resin hehe...didn't want to deal with the tannins. I tried to pick out a variety of plants so it would look appealing to the eye. It usually takes me hours on the aquascaping part because I am very picky and if it doesn't feel right I rearrange until it is. Thank you all for your help and support. I already want to go bigger but not until I move out of my apartment. I was thinking of adding a few more fish and perhaps plants but not sure...hmm. And for anyone interested in the bowfronts who haven't had a chance to see them in person...they are amazing. So much extra room to play around with and nothing looks distorted whatsoever! Happy fishkeeping...cheers

Thank you all again for the flood of wonderful comments! I really was thinking and besides adding some more plants I would like to put in around 5-7 neon tetras since they are so small but I already have the issue with my overflow box getting ahold of the not so smart fishies...

Fantastic looking tank. The wood looks familiar. I have a smaller/similar piece in my 20g long. Did you get those pieces from Dr's Foster & Smith?

Good morning Rabbit. Sorry to hear your fish are ending up in the over flow box. I had this issue as well in my 155g bow front. You can band a thin layer of filter sponge all around the top of the box to prevent the little ones from going into it. (or some filter floss.)
Good luck!

Yes, I did get the driftwood from "the doctors" website. That company has been nothing but awesome in selection and price and quick shipping for me. Highly recommend them to anyone.

Aquarist, I have come up with a solution for my overflow problem...whether it works or not I won't know till I build it. I bought some 1/2" mesh plastic fence type stuff that is only a few millimeters thin. Since the stuff is so flemsy and a bit too big I was thinking of overlapping several sheets and ip tying them together to add some rigidity to it and make the holes smaller by offsetting the sheets. I am just worried about it getting clogged and my tank ending up spilling water all over my carpet. I will most likely work on it tomorrow and keep an extra close eye on it.

On a side note I noticed a thin opaque film developing on the waters surface in my sump. It kinda moves around a little as the water flows. I was wondering what the heck it was. No funny smell. I checked all my levels yesterday and all was spot on. I clean everything before I put it in and always condition the water...any thoughts?

Good morning. I'm glad to hear you found some mesh material. That should do the trick. You can rinse it out with your water changes to keep it from clogging and soaking your carpet.

The film developing on the water surface in your sump is normal. You could add an air stone to your sump or just stir it with your hand anytime you happen to notice it. It's cause by the lack of movement at the top of the water. My wet/dry filter does the same thing.
