That's a fantastic looking tank! I love the "mask". It adds a special "flavor" to the tank.

Thanks guys...

The mask is actually a limestone carving my husband did. Rainbow fish like hard water so I don't worry too much about the limestone (Our water here lives in a limestone aquifer before we get it anyway so it is just about as hard as it gets straight from the tap).

It has been fun decorating it.

Hi JennDFK,
Your water onion (crinum thaianum) is growing really well. That dude is huge! Bet it loves the echo complete.
The tank looks really nice. Congrats to you and hubby.

Yes and yes, for sure. You go girl!
Wait, didn't you just do your hex (or was that someone else)?

It is just black gravel. As far as tips go... I don't know... What are you planning on keeping? Anything special?

I added plants to my hex a number of months ago... but I have pretty high nitrates in it and I'm thinking about planting it more heavily. I'll have to get more lighting to do it.
I'm also thinking about moving my killifish to my 55 gallon and maybe putting an angelfish in the hex. I hear they like the tall tanks.
Is echo complete a fertilizer? I haven't had to use anything on the water onion and it just keeps growing and growing. It was pretty big when I got it... but man it is HUGE now.

There is a large piece of driftwood with the big java fern on it... and there is also a rock that I have a smaller lace java fern on.

Thanks everyone for all the wonderful feedback!

Yes, Echo Complete is substrate for plants.
Sorry, I thought it was what you used here.

It is called a water onion. It isn't really an onion... but it looks similar.

Probably the coolest plant I've ever owned.
