| Gbr(: Well, after months of waiting, I finally got my German Blue Rams! They don't seem to be moving that much though... Is that a problem? Also can you tell me what gender they both are if you can. Thank you! |

| Congrats! They're such beautiful fish.
I could be wrong but the one on the left looks female (riddish belly)...on the right a male. Some members can tell by their fins.
They might just need time to adjust to their new tank. Did you acclimate them very slowly? |

| Thank you.
I aclimated them real slow. I think it just be because they are in a new tank. I love them so much already! Haha! |

| They are beautiful fish! Congrats! Agreed on thinking they just need some time to adapt to their new home. I don't know the sex of them though. |

| Congrats on your GBRs Looking at the photos, tho a bit blurry, I would say that you have a male and a female, til other photos come out better, that is my guess. |

| Of course they have to find the most difficult place to be when I'm trying to take a picture.. Haha! Maybe once they become used to their new home I can get some better picss! Keeping my fingers crossed for a boy and a girl! |

| They are beautiful! Keep us posted on their progress. There are some of us (me) that want to try to keep them later on, after we have more experience.
Congratulations! |

| Thank you! I will keep you posted as much as I can. Eventually I am going to move them into my bigger tank. But that might take a while.. Can they be put with other types of rams? Like Bolivian? |

| From what I've read, yes they can, but you may want to get that verified by someone here that is more experienced. They're supposed to be peaceful and I know they can be put in community aquariums. |

| I agree with pink belly, female. Without their fins raised it is a good guess. Also on your first pictures the right hand one, the fish on the right seems to have an extended 2nd or 3rd dorsal ray so is most likely a male...all depends on their age too, but I bet you have a pair....and what good coloring too. Congrats!!!!
Another interesting thought from experiences...these dwarf cichlids, once they are acclimated don't be surprised if the spawn within 2 weeks or so. Very common for some reason with at least the South American Dwarfs. Last edited by TedsTank; June 12th, 2009 at 07:48 PM.

| What should I be looking for when they spawn? Do they need a specific spot to lay their eggs? |

| This morning I tried to feed them. The female ate a little and she was swimming around more! But the male is just in the same spot. He will venture off into other parts of the tank every once in a while. I'm waiting for him to eat. Maybe later on tonight he will.. |

| I also think that you have a pair, but can not be 100% positve by the pictures. As for the shyness, they just need more time. I like to feed my new arrivals frozen bloodworms after a few days of being in their new tank. While I can't prove it, they always seem to be more atcive and comfortable after a meal with the extra protein. Just be aware, bloodworms will often induce my breeding pairs to spawn. If you are not interested in breeding the pair, you can add some dither fish to help comfort your shy Rams. I have had great success with both Cardinals and Rummy Nose with my GBR's.
Your Rams have really nice coloring, enjoy them. |

| I am going to get some new food for them soon. It will probably be Monday before I can get any though.. Will they eat freeze dried brine shrimp? |

| Hi xxnascarxx,
Beautiful fish.... In your pictures, it looks like the bubbles are coming out of the gravel. Do you have an airstone under the gravel?

| Oh, ok.
Today when I was feeding them, some of it went to the bottom. The female tried to get it before it hit it but she was too late. She started to eat it but she accidentially got a snail! She was sooo confused! Lol. The male is swimming around a lot more now. |

| Well, this morning when I woke up I found the male digging a hole in my gravel. Does that necessarily mean anything? |

I just got some new GBR's today and i LOVE them. They were also pretty stressed the first day |

| They didn't do anything with the pit unfortunatly... But lately they have been cleaning off a rock inside of the tank! I hope they will spawn, but if they don't I have no problem with it. Plus I don't think they really like each other..They have finally gotten used to their tank and they swim all around it now! Their colors are more defined now too. |
