New Cichlids and tank

Finally got the tank ready and the fish are here I have 4 Pundamilia Nyererei in there now with 5 Cobalt blues, I have 4 more of the Pundamilia in the QT tank and 4 more coming, is this enough to keep them happy and peaceful?

The Pundamilia Nyererei are victorian cichlids, they require a higher pH/harder water than malawi cichlids.
I am worried that the cobalts will kill the victorian cichlids. They aren't peaceful fish, and malawi mbuna should be kept with other mbuna only.

I kinda thought that myself, but the guy I got them from said if they grow up together they should be fine because he has had the 2 in a tank together. They are all about 1.5 inches now and seem to be doing ok,,but I will be keeping a close on on them. Thanks

Yeah, it would be a real bummer if you had to set up another tank.

Im glad that you know that so if something happens you can get them separated. They can be killers from fry size. I have a 36g tank that I just keep mbuna fry in and they are little savages not even 3/4 inch size. My cobalts aren't friendly either. But individual mbunas vary so to speak some will remain peaceful throughout their lives. I would love to have a tank of those victorians, they are beatiful fish! But I already have maxed out on tanks in my house and have a baby due in August. (the silver lining is we only have 3 bedrooms and the baby is a girl so it will push my husband to build a bigger house faster, and he has promised a floor level room that I can put 200g tanks in I plan to have a victorian, tang, and malawi setup at least 100g's each).

With the malawi's you can go to a higher ph of 8.2, I would suggest that since Lake Victoria is a higher ph lake. It would make bothe species thrive. Also with a ratio of 1 male to 3+ females of cobalts they should be okay. If you end up with more than one male I would get rid of him to keep peace.

I think they are all 5 males if I am sexing them right, they all have the nice blue color and the profile says the female are an orangish color.Do you know if this is correct? and if so should I take them all out just to be safe ? Thanks for any advice on this I don't want to lose any of these pretty little guys due to my lack of knowledge on them
