| 120 gallon planted tank and some of the residents Hey all, just wanted to share some pics of the 120 gallon. Tank is 48"x24"x24", lighting is 4x65W Coralife power compact fixture, and we use 2 Rena XP3's for filtration plus a Maxi Jet powerhead for extra circulation. We change 50% of the water weekly. The plants are a challenge with the Rotkeil pair we have, but keeping these beautiful fish makes it worth the nipped plants! |

| Your tank looks really nice You are so lucky that you are able to keep your rotties in there with the plants! Mine demolished mine. Not only would he nip them, but he would uproot them and move them around the tank. What a pain He's worth it though. IMO Rotkeil Sevs are some of the most beautiful freshwater fish. Have yours spawned for you? |

| No they haven't. They spent some time in a 55 gallon that was just too small for them before I was able to upgrade them to the 120. They are wild caught and still seem to be getting used to captivity... the male is so shy I have never even gotten a pic of him! |

| My severum was really shy for the first month or two. I don't have any background on him so I don't know if mine is wild or tank raised. Hopefully yours will become more bold as time goes on. Your columbian tetras look really nice next to the rotkeil. The colors really compliment eachother |

They were incredibly shy when I first got them (at about 7 inches each), and now the female will at least approach when she knows I'm in the room. The male still won't. Still, they have come a long way.
I REALLY wish they would start breeding. Our water quality is excellent, they eat a varied diet, nitrate never goes above 15 with 50% weekly water changes, and our pH is about 6.5. Should be a recipe for success! But, we're still waiting.
I'd love to be able to raise some F1 Rotkeil fry though! |

I bought all 6 the first time I saw them in person, lost one shortly after moving them 440 miles, and I haven't seen any at LFSs since. I'd love to get 6 more or so for the 120. They are peaceful, active, and beautiful community fish. |

| Update time!
We were fortunate enough to get some FREE plants from a member of another forum. We got some huge mother plants, narrow leaf java fern and regular java fern, and a ton of smaller plants. The ones in the pic aren't all the ones we got... the smaller plants are in the QT. Here's a FTS from tonight: |
