can anyone tell me what this is please?

my friend got given this fish the other day, was kina an emergency rescue lol!! but he dosent have a clue what it is, so dosent know what it needs, or what ya can keep it with etc :S can anyone help please??

btw sorry if this is the wrong section :S didnt know where else 2 put it!!

its some type of rainbow fish but im not sure what species

It is a rainbow fish... but I wouldn't know the type either... it has the same coloring as a Boesmani... but it isn't as brilliant... maybe it is a female or an immature male?

Those yellow stripes on its body really throw me off, i dont think its a boseman

I think that it is a female Australian murray river rainbowfish-Melanotaenia fluviatilis

you'll have to scroll down until you see the murray river heading, does it look like the smaller fish in the second photo?

I had one in my tank for ages. They are schooling fish and prefer a coldwater setup. Peaceful, shy, eat almost anything, mine was very hardy. Well there's more info in the link.
