My very first stand is just about done new photo 02/18/09

Greetings all,

I have just purchased a 125 a few days ago and to be honest the stands......well i just dont trust the construction of them. (Plywood on edge and they ask 300.00 plus dollars for them) For that kind of money i could build myself a great dog house which I'm going to need after my wife finds out how much money i have spent on our hobby.) I figure with the water weight along with substrate weight and every other thing weight that just wasn't going to cut it. So lets just say Tim Allen more power.

Tanks,
Big Rich

great stand!!!!! might I put in an order for a "dog house" at a reasonable cost also? after awhile, they dont even notice the new fish and the money spent, well "GROCERIES" have inflated so much with this darn economy

Shawnie,

Thank you I have included a picture of the bathroom that is inside this dog house of mine. It is to the left of the door just beyond the 50 inch tv A dog should have it so good

Nice! I don't trust those store stands either but then you are left with all iron stands. Not so pretty.

Greetings Emory,

Yes your right about those black iron stands. They just rot after some time and are ugly.

Tanks,

Up date on tank

Hello once again

As of now i have one picture of a stand that is almost done. Here are the materials i used. The sub frame was all pressure treated wood. The four corners and middles are 4x4 the bottom plate is a 2x6 the top plate is a 2x4 The bottom of the cabinet along with the back is luon 1/4inch. if you noticed i carriage bolted it all together the rest is 3/4 inch pine. The color squares you see are travertine marble along with handles that are being fabricated to suit. I'm have built a small top that i am not happy with i will be changing this around.

I want to put 3 20 gal tanks on the tall 5 ft part of the L and a 30 gal on the 4 foot lower part of the L

that looks awesome!

it may be a little late for this, but did you use or think about using metal corner braces? i'm making a stand for my 29 gallon and it would be a little overkill for me to use them but i'd rather be safe than sorry.

Hello Agabr123,

No i didn't think about metal bracing at all. If you take notice on the frame photos. I used bolts and washers. Of course the wood was pulled in when i cranked down on them. But just because i can... i stood on it no movement what so ever. So i would say the way it was constructed I should have no problems. I should point out the top and the bottom are the same you can't see it cross braced

hope this has helped you out,
Big Rich

Yeah, I'll probably put a few cinderblocks on it to test the weight, it's only for a 29 gallon tank so it's really not that much weight, but like i said i'd rather be safe than sorry. i just used wood screws for the whole thing
