Betta Haven....

Little aquarium on my desk at work. Click on photos for larger versions. Comments welcomed :-) Please note that the betta seen in these photos is in fishy heaven. The next message down in the thread will have photos of Konan, the newest resident Betta.

The newest resident, Konan....

The previous resident Betta passed away just before Christmas [of unknown causes]. Here is the new guy -- rescued from a tiny cup of filthy water tossed out of sight and sitting in the dark for who-knows-how-long (long enough at least to no longer have the will to even swim around). He took up residence in Betta Haven about two weeks ago. His name is Konan -- for his habit of hunting baby MTS snails and eating them and, also, his habit of swimming around all excited and flaring at everything in sight.

Oh, and he's more dark purple and orange now.

He was in surprisingly good shape.... The photos were taken within three days of his arrival in Betta Haven.

Nice! Can we have a full tank shot?
I have a similiar size tank that I want to put a betta in, and you make your tank look so much bigger than it is!

Great tank. I love it. Maybe someday I'll do the planted thing. Is it hard to keep the substrate clean with all roots?

Thanks...

You don't "clean" the substrate in a planted aquarium. The plants use that "mess" as food. That's kinda the point of the plants being there Makes maintenance a lot less work.

So you don't vacuum your gravel. That in itself is enticing.
