| | Fish Lore Newbie | 45 Gallon Cichlid Tank, 10 Gallon Community, and 1 Gallon Guppy! So I changed a couple things in the 45, the goldfish was removed, a flower pot was put in and the fish love it, then I bought a piece of slate and put together a little cave structure that the fish also love. I think the tank looks better now b/c it's not just plants...
Here's some pics of the tank today and its occupants
BEFORE (yesterday):
AFTER (this morning)
The Oscar, Parrot, and Jack Dempsey hanging out near the cave
The Albino Oscar and the Parrot
Mr. Convict always guarding "his" rock....annoying
The 10 Gallon today...looks decent
Filtered 1-Gal Guppy Tank! The light actually keeps the water around 74-75!

| | Fish Helper | that top tank looks really well decorated, plus the cave you made makes it look even better. The whole tank has a really natural look...good job! |

thanks for noticing the gravel! I was gonna go with sandy or brown color, but I want the fish tank to stand out in my room, so I bought two 20lb bags of blue and one 10 lb bag of red and mixed them together haha |

| | Moderator | The tanks look so nice. Really good job decorating them.
I'm sorry, but since you did ask for comments, the guppies would be better in a bigger tank than a 1g. |

The guppies are energetic and seem to enjoy showing off their color when I get close to the tank...what fish, besides a betta, would do well in a 1 Gallon? |

| | Fish Keeper | Essentially none. Maybe a ghost shrimp, but I'm not sure about that. Did you get the one gallon at Petco? I've seen it there and I was wondering what kind of filter you put in there. It doesn't look like an undergravel filter, is it? And (if not) where did you get a filter small enough? |

| | Fish Mentor | its not a undergravel filter and u should be able to find it at most pet stores |

| | Moderator | your tanks look great! and the deco is better in the second pic....
but ...you will need to remove most of it as your oscar grows or he will hurt himself severely on anything solid... |

Betta's should be kept at the very minimum of 2.5, although 5g is better (heated, filtered and cycled).
1g could be a cool planted shrimp tank. They don't have much of a bioload at all. |

| | Fish Lore Newbie | The filter was $5 at Pet Kraze near my house...very basic and the box said remove and replace every 2-3 weeks...
The tank was from Petsmart for $25 I think...the box made it seem like it had some mild filtration or heating system, but it doesn't so it's kind of worthless. The only way the water stays around 74 degrees is if I leave the light on 24 hours a day.
Shrimp would be cool, never seem them at any fish places around here...I think i'll pick up a 5 gallon in the near future just for a Betta, switch the Guppies into the 10 Gallon, and set aside the pointless 1 gallon... Quote: |

| how and why would he do that? I'm actually getting a 125 Gallon tank early next year specifically for large fish like the Oscars, so I hope he's not too big by then.. |

| | Moderator | they are flounders in the tropical world...he will tear up all the plants and move gravel piles all the time...and they love to spin around in circles like dogs chasing their tails...anything hard will scrape them up so just keep that in mind..im so not being critical just warning you as I have two big horses in my tank LOL and that tank coming should be plenty of time ..im guessing he is about 4-5 inches? |

| | Moderator | After all that moving around, sounds like you'll have an empty 45g to fool around with. |
