Its hard to tell from such a small pic. I can see that there is no gravid spot so if she is, then she has some time before birthing.

I could never positively see the gravid spot on all of my female platys. I will say that if you have recently gotten your female platy within the past 3-4 weeks and you don't have a male platy in residence then assume she is prego if she is getting larger. Depending on your tank - the fry sometimes survive sometimes don't - one of our tanks has a platy colony and I leave it up to nature who survives (5 adult females and 1 very horney male who seems to keep the girls continuously "barefoot & pregnant" ) recently I have noticed two fry that have survived to the point where they don't need to hide constantly - Big Mac and Whopper - Kudos to them for making it to this point!!!

I'm wondering when my female will give birth, herself- I'm pretty sure she's a swordtail-platy mutt, so I have no clue if the gravid spot will show up or not (swordtail fins + platy coloring = probable mutt fish). A few days ago my male swordtail wouldn't let her out of his sight for an instant, but now he's seemed to calm down a bit. Maybe she's stopped being fertile for the while.

Either way, she's a chubby little fishy- probably with 'cargo', so to speak. *goes back to looking for place to put a breeding tank*

Hello
I am new to this site!
I have Guppies and fantail. This one silver girl i have is on her third generation. She is in a seperate vase with air pump. A very happy fish by herself and getting fat and plumpy. She had breed twcie with over 20 to 30 frys at one time. We ended up around 10 babies who now all grown up and read to breed with others. It will be an exciting experience if u had never witness. If u like to keep the fry, be sure to seperate her from her babies or she will eat them as she breed them. I know is kinda sad. I read that they would only need to mate once and she will contiune to breed if she is in good health!!So good Luck and keep an open eye!! Happy Day!!

Aldancer- PLEASE don't keep fish in vases. It is just really inhumane. I really hope it has a filter and a heater.
