Heros efasciatus, golds are aquariums strains.
We're going to get a few more to make sure we get nice ones for breeding.

well im aware that it is a aquarium strain. but they are other color variations sold as gold severums. http://www.cichlidforum.com/profiles...es.php?id=2447 that looks yours i think. my point was saying that they might not be as gold someday as you hope

my personal favorite variety is the red spoted they are often called, i think they are very awesome, mine is starting to develope the spots, im very excited, i hope they continue to show up and darken, Severums are cool and fun to watch, mine tends to be shy, but he/she is gettin better, about how big are they

They are absolutely adorable! They have a gold severem and a green (I think) in the 55g tank in work and I always spend a few minutes watching them each day (when I should be working) but if they didn't want me to they shouldnt have set it up!

Juvi fish change a lot while they grow up, i'm willing to bet those are pure gold severums. Those whites are just a gold mutation....still part of the gold severum genes.
Nice fish Allie

He wouldn't dare do what Karen's hubby did. Hey Karen, lol? How is Shrek BTW?
He knows better than to pick out a pet betta for me. I have to see their faces and look into their eyes to see if they have the quality I like in a betta.
We wanted something for the 120g that we actually could see moving around...fancy plecos and a feather fin synodontis are a tad boring.
I am not a huge fan of big cichlids but I have always had a thing for severum. They are gentle giants.
The smaller one is a white one, the other is gold. They have different coloring definitely. We are going to get a few more whites and golds to get pairs.

i read in a article once that severums are a poor mans discus, mine started shy and now hes prettty friendly with me, i haven been feeding him hikaris, cichlid gold, and it seems to turn his sunny yellow yellow into a more of a mac and cheese yellow, and started to make him develope some spots. But thats just with that food, i could expriement with all different types, i wish you could have just the one food you need and no matter what fish, it would bring out there most wonderful colors

OH lucky you!!! Gee, no one thinks to get me Severums for my birthday.
My severums were the most wonderful fish I ever had, and I know you'll get so much joy from these guys!

We had an adult female green severum we rescued and re homed her in a week or so. She made me fall in love with them. I am partial to the little white one...he/she follows me already.
They are so friendly these two. I suppose they are just happy to be out of the fish room at our lps.
I can't wait to get a few more...at this size in a 120g they would so cute to see all swimming around.

Since they are both aquarium strains that makes sense.
We actually are noticing the gold one is getting golder already, but the white one is not changing. Time will tell.
