Awesome! Thanks for the tip on Kenny.I am planning on setting up a heavily planted 75 gallon discus tank, hopefully next spring. My biggest concern was where to buy the fish, but I think you just solved my problem,THANKS!I checked out his web site,he has a huge variety and great looking fish.
He imports and gets a shipment once a month and sells out fast. Never really has a chance to put the newest stocklist on his website. Usually sells straight on www.SimplyDiscus.com/forum in his sponser section. Gives shipment preview pics and pics of the actual fish in his tanks when he gets them. Definitely look into him though, super good guy to buy from.
Hey guys! Remember that I'm from Malaysia... I've seen them in some aquarium stores here. They're quite common!
It's cool! I've never seen fish packed in a box and shipped like what I see in the pics! I also never knew they could stand the air pressure! How long was the shipment and how much did they all cost including shipment? I've always wanted to order or take home fish from overseas but my parents never allow it 'cause they believe the fish would die in the plane!

I'd love to visit Malaysia. Go see some of the breeder operations over there. I know of one in Kota Tinggi Johor, and another in Ipoh. Some of the best discus in the world come from this region, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan.
I had the easy part. The guy i bought them from does the importing from Malaysia to the States, and then i get them from him in the states right after that. I got them overnight (1 day) at a cost of $96 for the box. It was across the country coast to coast....California to South Carolina.
Shipping is quite common and safe for the fish. Most people won't ship anything but overnight and it'd be the same if you were to go to an auction and bring fish home with you. The air pressure isn't that much, the planes are pressurized, even the cargo planes of like UPS. I used to work for UPS and always saw live animals and things go through.

That's cool, Slug! So i guess it's safe to carry live fish in my bag huh? I've always wanted to do that since I was young. I've tried looking for websites that can ship fish from the states but never found any. I found 1 but they said they don't ship overseas but only in the states. Anyways, thanks Slug. It's cool I found this thread otherwise I wouldn't have found out about this. lol
What i'm wondering is what in the world you would want fishwise from the states? Most of the really nice fish go to Europe or Asia these days because they pay more for them.
The pics are absolutely beautiful (and so are the fish!) I've always wanted discus but everyone keeps telling me they are super hard to take care of.
Not really. Just takes a little more TLC then the average neon tetra. Start with good stock from a breeder and your chances for problems lessen. Thanks!
Slug, love the whitebutterfly throwbacks. (My white butterfly has some peppering I'm not so wild about.) I love the pattern on their faces too.
The Penang Eruption looks like the Eruption Leopard I had : ( , lost him not so long ago.
They look very healthy though and nicely sized.
How many did you get total?
Thanks. I got 8 from this shipment. Those white butterflies probably will not get solid white like a true "white butterfly" but thats why the term throwback is there hehe. I do want some solid whites though, working on getting some. The pattern you see on the WBtb's faces should spread throughout the body too.
The Penangs are nice, very fine spots. I was about to get some Eruption leopards but decided not to this time. The eruption leopards are more blotchy with spots running together and with a random spotting pattern, as well as some striations.
I think my next group needs to be some reds that blow people's minds.
Just to give you an idea of Adult coloration of these fish i've borrowed a couple of Kenny's and Forrest's pictures. All photos and fish are credited to Kenny Cheung Home Page and Discus Forrest of Malaysia. Again these are NOT my fish, just fish from the same breeding stock.
