Trip to the San Antonio Zoo..African Cichlid Lovers Paradise!!!!!
We took the kids to the zoo today to check out their new Africa Live! exibit. This thing is awesome. They have a bunch of beautiful displays of Cichlids from lake Tanganik and Malawai. But the coolest thing is the Hippo enclosure. You can go down below and see them swimming under water surrounded by hundreds of the most beautiful cichlids you have ever seen. This trip has truly inspired me to try my had at cichlids as soon as I can get some funds to do it correctly.
Now the pics:
1. The kids in front of the Lake Tanganika Display
2. One of three windows into their gigantic Lake Malawai Display
3. Kids in front of the Hippo enclosure
4. Random Fish
5. Another Randon Fish (I blow at identifying Cichlids..Sorry.)

Was this where the episode of Dirty Jobs was filmed? There was one where he was cleaning a hippo tank... and it was filled with african cichlids....
Either way... awesome pictures!

I don't know if this is the same one, it has only been open for a couple of months. But it did need to be cleaned already. There were gigantic, bowling ball sized lumps of Hippo poop rolling around the bottom.
It is very possible it could be though. There are always shows about places in San Antonio on either Discovery or Food Network. They filmed the Snake Farm episode here as well as a few stops on Diner's, Drive-In's, and Dives. Bobby Flay even had a throwdow here.
I also forgot to mention the Crocodille exibit that was the same underground kind of thing. But this one was filled with tons of Congo Tetras, Kribs, and other smaller fish. I couldn't get any decent pics because the glare was something awful.

Turns out the Dirty Jobs episode was filmed at the Adventure Aquarium in Camden, NJ.
Both are too far away for me to visit any time soon. Too bad, judging by the pictures, that place looks amazing!!!
