Woke up in the morning and found a Suprise In the Tank

Woke up in the morning one day and to my surprise I found one of my shyest fish devouring a dead guppy. Warning: This is not for the faint of heart.

Also, I posted a picture of one of my favorite fish inside my tank. Not sure what it is, some sort of catfish, but it loves to swim around the tank.

Oh and just for kicks I also posted a photo of my 55g aquarium. Hope you enjoy this weird but intriguing post.

I'd be willing to bet the guppy died first, and the catfish then found it.

The other catfish is a type of Synodontis.

To me that looks like a syno angelcius(or however you spell it) and shouldn't be in a community tank. Most syno aren't good for a community tank, except the upside down catfish, but that's a different story.

Sorry I forgot to say that the guppy was already dead and he had found it. As far as the synodontis thing goes I agree with you. Oh and Tom, he doesn't bother any fish and no fish bother him so I don't know why he would be bad for a community tank.

Anyway thanks for taking the time to view and comment!

Mostly cause they can get big and can eat living fish, not just cleaning up.

I agree with Tom, catfish will eat small live fish (its their natural food source in the wild) especially if they are underfed, which most bottomfeeders in fish tanks tend to be

The fish in DSC00588-1-jpg looks like it might be a Synodontis aterrimus. My husband keeps about 8 in his Malawi tank. They are very shy, but pretty good bottom dwellers. The LFS had them labeled as Synodontis "Lace Cats", but they look nothing like the pics of "Lace Cats" on planetcatfish.com.

Most bottom dwellers will eat anything dead or dieing they find (they are scavengers after all) but most won't kill tank mates for food if fed well. Most Synodontis get rather large and boisterious. I loved the Synodontis Eupteres but he got so big that when he played he annoyed everyone.
