I love the acei!! I have been eyeing acei's lately, they are so beautiful. I see you keep yours w/ yellow labs, would hongi work instead? I might rearrange some fish...

Yup, they'd be fine. I love them. The acei school..they looked awesome in groups of six or more. Acei seem to keep to themselves, they pretty much go with anything.

Thanks, I am thinking of putting the polits in a species only tank, and maybe doing the afra, acei and hongi in the 58g.

Those are some great pics! I just love seeing everyone's tanks. What do you have in there for substrate? Just sand mixed with some random gravel? I am on a mission to find the perfect substrate, and I really like the looks of yours.

It's silica sand mixed beach rocks. Silica sand is great for planted tanks. Cheaper too, $10 for 40kg bag at our Shaw Brick Store...and probably other places like a hardware store or somewhere along those lines.
Thanks all, you know I love taking shots of my fishies.

Beautiful fish. Africans do have striking colors and I always love those aceis as well, they're 1 of my favorite mbunas.

Great pix.

Thanks! I have really been thinking about pool filter sand and yours looks great with the rocks mixed in. I love seeing everyone else's tanks to get ideas for my own.

It's why I love Malawi cichlids to begin with. The shades of blue and yellow, reds, purples...so cool.
Maybe you'll have a Malawi tank someday...maybe soon. MTS. lol

Actually Allie....What I'm planning on doing when my old man Will passes away is converting my 55 gallon into a tank with either Angels or Malawi....I will be heartbroken when that day comes but I will never put another Betta kid in that tank.....

I'd try Malawi first, angelfish are beautiful but nowhere near as hardy as the Malawi cichlid. They are fun to watch.
Since I have a tank of both....
I have no business try to help someone decide between the 2 species. I couldn't lol.

I have to say by far malawis are my favorite fish! They are so colorful, active, and addictive...
Of coarse this is coming from someone stareing at her tanks wondering if there is something "different" she can do.... I am taking one of my smaller tanks and putting a trio of purple moscow guppies.

Now you are making me question my stocking plan for my new 65 gallon tank...I was planning on 3 angels among other things. The fish in your pictures here are so beautiful though! I just don't know enough about chiclids.
