I have a pair of convicts in my 65Gallon and they have got fry, so heres some pics and im going to keep this thread updated with new pics of the adults+fry whenever somthing new happens .
Sorry about the algae on the glass showing up, i need to clean it soon but i dont wanna disturb the convicts.
Shawnie i need to clean the glass on the front of my tank but i dont want to disturb the convicts so should i wait until the fry are free swimming and are not near the front of the tank until i clean it?
nopers its fine to stick your hand in and wipe it down...just make sure your hands are cleaned in hot water without any soaps or lotions etc!
mom n dad wont like it but it wont bother the fry...my convicts come after ANYTHING that come even near the tank on the outside...they chase a finger like its bad!
Haha my little sister had been pointing at the fish and poking the glass, so anyway i was cleaning fingerprints off of my glass and the male started flaring at the tissue even though i was outside the tank

even when I try to get vids, mom n dad try to get me from the outside LOL

lol, well atleast you know yours are good parents, i think my males doing a superb job of protecting the fry!, but the females terrible , she sits their being a great mom keeping the fry together, but as soon as i come for a look she swims off and the male has to take control .
1st of August, update, the video above was also taken on the 1st of August.
Around 35 minutes after the video was taken the fry have started free swimming, they are only staying in the burrow they are in dug by the adults, but they arem oving around in it alot now .
A quick question Ben, yunno the last shots of your Malawi tank..... what are the kinda purple stripy guys with the yellow fins I think thats what we have.
Those really sound like our guys. I'm a bit confused. The pet shop didn't tell us much. I'll try to get some shots tomorrow but they're v. shy...... Thanks Ben, enjoy your babies!!!!
, the male is at the point where he attacks anything on the outside of the tank, like my finger lol., the male is getting a bit aggresive with the gourami and angels so im gonna take them to the LFS soon, then i plan on putting in a jack dempsey or oscar when they havent got fry so it can settle in and it will b able to look after itself

The pairs we've had over the years did the same thing. We've got a set of the reaching handle thingys for tanks...ya know to help move plnats & what not. They would literally attack the "reaching stick" (as we call it here, lol). You could feel how hard they slam into it.
I had to reaarange the tank today because the proffessional that owns my nearest LFS said he will givem e a jack dempsey for my firemouths, so i rearranged the tank and my hand actually hurt a couple of times, the jack dempsey is in and looking after himself
