I rescued a cup baby from Petco on the 19th and decided to name him Esteban -- some of you might have already seen this when I was agonizing over whether to rescue him - Torn & Heartbroken :(

He's really difficult to get a decent photo of because of his colour and because he was so shy at first, but I have been talking to him lots and spending time with him, and in addition to that removing the curtain between the bowls and letting him and Consuela (my new female) see one another for a couple of minutes each day, and BOY has he ever developed an attitude! He will just swim right up and flare at just about anything new now... boys.
Finally managed to snap a good photo of my darling little Don Juan in all his studly glory... hope you enjoy.

You know i've never really been a betta fan until recently seeing everyone's nice colored fish. Thats a nice fish.

He is very pretty! As soon as I get my son's ADFs out of my kitchen 5 gallon (3 weeks till his promised b-day tank...) I will be on the lookout for another beautiful boy to grace our house.

Slug - I was never a betta fan either, but if you stick around here, you are going to grow to love them!

It's a little sad, but it's a quick read and I think just about anyone that's rescued a betta will understand how he came to be called "Esteban". Those little jewels truly can change your life.

KyWildFish: I was shocked to see him at a Petco of all places, myself. He does appear to be a Double Ray CT... I think he knows that he is such an unusual and specially-coloured fish, because he seems to love showing off that finnage of his more than any betta I've had before.

He is absolutely stunning! I have never seen a Betta this color! So handsome....Congrats on his rescue..

I was thinking too the first time I saw him, that I can't ever remember seeing one with this particular pattern in just the tips of their finnage. In this photo, the top is folded over behind him a bit so you can't see, but the aqua spotting continues all the way up. Very odd.
