MY 55: Need Advice

Heres my 55 gallon tank. Im quite the novice right now and have received some bad advice on what i should and shouldn't be doing. If anyone can critique this tank and let me know what i should be doing, i would greatly apprecite it. thanks

1 Jack Dempsey
1 Green Terror
1 Rainbow cichlid
1 Texas cichlid
1 Black Convict
9 Tiger Barbs - heading back to the pet store as we speak. Result of bad advice.

The tank itself looks very nice. You just have to work out what you are gonna do with all those big cichlids I'm going to do a bit of research for you. Be right back....

I am not a cichlid girl, so I can't comment on your stock; but your tank looks very nice!

Okay I'm back. The problem is that all of your fish are highly aggressive and keeping them in such close quarters is really asking for disaster. The rainbow cichlid is the only peaceful one that you have and the others will torment it, or even kill it so it must be removed from the group. Out of your remaining cichlids, these are the possible stocking schemes you can think about:

1 texas cichlid
or
2 of the following:
Green Terror, Jack Dempsey, Convict

I hope this helps

you have been a big help to this rookie. thank you for posting so quickly. ill try to come up with a better plan here shortly so things will hopefully end up better.

surprising that the actual tank setup itself is ok though. i guess they gave me one good thing to go on at the pet store.

thanks

No problem We were all rookies once, and I wouldn't be where I am now if it weren't for the other people on this forum. We are all here to help

That's an awesome set-up you got RyanTom1.

I haven't kept any of these species but from what I've read from hobbyists that have them, Green Terror is very stunning but a highly aggressive species. They will fight with any similar looking fish like a Jack Dempsey even if they have lived together since they were juviniles.

Here's a link about Green Terrors.

Hope this helps.
