D_R's 55 community. TANK IS UP!! Next step: background!
So here is my work log for my 55gal. I think it'll be interesting to see the progress of the tank.
Ok here are the first pictures of the tank. I took these after I removed the top from the tank, and prepped for it to be re-sealed. (I did this yesterday morning)
After taking those pictures, I sealed the tank, and re-applied the top to the tank. Then (today), I sanded down the stand, and put the tank on top of the stand to see the progress so far:
Tomorrow I am going to do another water test of the tank to make sure I got it good, and then i'm going to either stain the wood, or paint it (i'm still deciding... there are a lot of chips in the wood that I couldn't get out too well and im not sure if i want to stain it because of those spots..)
Will post pics up of my progress tomorrow when I take 'em!!

My dad says it should probably be painted, though the color he wants to paint it (to match the room) is ugly IMO

What color does he want? If I were to paint a tank on the back and/or bottom, I'd probably stick with a blue color.

He's want this off-white. I'll post pics of it tomorrow when it's light out as we've painted it already. it's better then i thought it was, but still not what i really wanted...

OH....it is the stand that he wants painted that color. That shouldn't be bad, and like you say, you can repaint it later. I agree with CBCouple though, the tank should be a blue if you are going to paint it! |

Some ppl. paint the back of the tank as the background (and the bottom). I've seen black, blue, green, etc... The ones I've seen look very clean and nice. |

Well to be honest, those pictures are deceiving. The tank still looks bad, though the good news is that it's starting to come off!!
I got a razor blade and started gently scraping at it and it's SLOWLY coming off.. i got a good section done and will do the rest tomorrow

Explosives will get that off.  It's frustrating, we have a 30g that I just can't get some old writing off the front of. |
