Lol,I thought the same thing when I first heard of them.Apistogramma cacatuoides,or cockatoo dwarf cichlid.Does not resemble the bird,even a little bit.I think they called them that because of the crest on thier dorsal fins.

Awww he is so cute! He looks just like my male cockatoo that I lost a couple months ago. I wish I could find another one at the LFS, but they have not had them in stock at all lately.

I think it is just passing water through its gills or breathing however you say it or it just looks like that. I geuss cichilds just look funny from that angle it looks like it has "cheeks" and and a big mouth. I am not saying it looks ugly it just made me laugh... a lot. Almost every time I see it.

I think I read somewhere that cockatoos are sometimes called big mouth cichlids.Yeah I see what you mean now!
