| my pond I thought I would put a couple pics of my pond up. My mom and I built the rock wall on the two sides and the block wall across the front to sit on. The rock wall against the house behind the pond was part of the old waterfall and pond. the old waterfall and pond was just rock and cement and started to leak quite badly so we knocked a hole in the bottom for drainage and had it be a flower bed for a while. I missed the pond so I had a pond up on the porch for a while but it didn't get any sun so I couldn't have water lillies or mosquito fish, they just didn't survive without the sun. about three years ago I convinced Mom to let me move the pond over on top of the old pond and I got a larger prefab (it is about 180 gallons not counting the waterfalls). This last weekend I switched from clear tubing to black tubing to try to keep the moss from growing in the tubing and plugging it. It took me awhile to find plants to go around it. when it was under the overhand on the porch, I had ivy and other tropical houseplants growing around. The ivy really took over. Once I moved the pond out where it gets full sun for most of the morning, the house plants just couldn't hold up to 112 degrees farenheit in the summer. Right now I have dichondra and about three different types of thyme (the lemon scented thyme seems to do best). I also just put in some sea pink that seem to be holding up quite well. and of course the water lillies are doing good also. I will try to get some more pics showing my goldfish and lillies and plants. but here goes for a start. |

| Here are some more pics - you can see the rock wall that I built on one side (Mom mixed the mortar and I placed the rock) and the wall around the front to sit on. You can also see some of the plants I have around. the left side of the pond is mostly lemon scented thyme with a some a few other thymes thrown in. behind the pond against the house is dichondra and more dichondra in the front between the pond and the block wall. dichondra is also what you see growing through the block on the front. |

That way it could set and be ready for the next row the next evening. The block are just stacked, not mortared, so they went up on a saturday. The rocks are mortared on the sides of the block wall, but I could probably move the block without too much trouble if I ever had to. I love doing jigsaw puzzles and placing the rock was like putting together a jigsaw puzzle to get them to fit nicely. I had fun and it really turned out good. All of the rock came from the desert around Phoenix. My brother goes out on the desert in his jeep looking for old mines and stuff and he brought me back a bunch of rock. |

| Yeah, I'm proud of it. I just put new black 1" inside diameter tubing in (replacing the old clear 5/8 " diameter tubing) and it really is running nice. I love listening to the waterfalls. |

| new pics of pond I cleaned my pond again today. It looked so cool, I just had to take a couple more pics. Then it started to rain and the fish came up to see if I was throwing food in for them. Last edited by gremlin; August 25th, 2008 at 11:02 PM.
Reason: adding pics - they didn't load the first time. |

| That is just beautiful! It looks like it was a LOT of work, but the end result definitely looks as though it's worth it. I love listening to the sound of waterfalls - it's so relaxing. You're very lucky. |

| It wasn't as much work as it looks like. The hardest part was to make sure the hole was level in the bottom so the preformed pond would sit level. It still doesn't sit as level as it should, but it's pretty close. The block were easy to stack, and the rock wall went together quite well. |

The rocks against the house in the back are ones that my parents collected when we used to go out on the desert for BBQ's when I was younger. The rocks against the house are part of the old original waterfall that my parents built. Since all the rock came from the same general area, they kind of go together pretty well. |

| Really nice job on your pond. I know moving that rock is backbraking work. (I've got a rebuilt pond too) I know don't you just love the sound of the waterfall? |

| I also love all the textures. The rock working across the back to the sides and then the uniform front for sitting and watching your fish. Having large groups of plantings keeps it from looking nervous. . . flows very nicely. |

| Thank you very much. I really do love sitting out front listening to the waterfalls and watching the fish. I'm really excited right now because this is the first time I've had my whole algae cleaning crew survive a full summer in the pond. Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to do with them this winter... It is so nice to not have to pull giant clumps of moss off the walls of my pond. You can see in the pics that even the rocks are algae free thanks to my cleaning crew! Talk about maintenance free! |
