Predator Fish

The bf has got some predator fish. A FW barracuda AKA African Tigerfish, Barry, & a garfish, Gary.
Here's some pix. 1st one is the garfish and 2, 3, 5 are the barracuda.
Interesting fish...not too pretty tho.

Pretty cool! What size tank do you have them in? How big will they end up getting?

Hi Allie,
the Gar I recognize by the long nose... But that Barracuda is IMO a kewl looking fish! I like the markings on its tail fins. Just how large do they get?

The barracuda gets 12"+ I've heard 2 ft... same with the gar. He is doing the 120g an oddity tank, adding the datnoid and angelfish in the mix. We are getting another larger tank for when we are doing discus. *pouts* not soon enough for me.
Right now they are in a 33g, but will be moved to the 120g as soon as we get the gumption to do the big change up.

That Barracuda bit the guy/our lfs connection, who fished him out. Right on the thumb. He is cool looking but his face is ugly...his mouth can open 2" wide. *shivers*

hahah.... well, Im glad to hear that the Barracuda is NOT a salt water fish!
You would need a much much larger tank! still think hes cute even if he did bite the seller on the thumb! Best be careful what you put in that tank with them.. and your thinking of adding angels to the mix?

I never realized that barracuda look like muskies/northerns. I wonder how closely related they are.
Anyway, beautiful fish.

Eventually we will be getting a 400g tank made for the store and they will fit great in there as the main show tank for the store. We've got lots and lots of plans for the future. The fun part is making the plans on how to set up things: display tanks etc...
They only go after things that can fit in the mouths. My angels are pretty big. People keep angelfish with weird fish. So my diamond tetra aka snacks will be staying in the 44g with the keyholes.

I know you'll have those home. They might not be as pretty as the africans but still they got their own character.

I ended up taking some rainbows and a rampock catfish.

Gar, I actually would love to get into catching those guys out of our lake and shipping them out. (seriously, I have asked my husband to check the laws on them since they have no restrictions on catching them from the lake) They are over-run in our lake that is not even a mile from our house. I have seen them 5-6 feet long before at the lake swimming under our fishing boat! They prey on everything swimming, which has ruined a lot of my fishing trips...

Honestly I bet they make cool aquarium fish to see them eat and swim around.... they are extremely agressive!

Yes the gar is very aggressive. He and Barry are buddies.
