33g Tanganyika
We just have the 4 Gold Calvus in there for now. We wanted them to be safe from the murderous Malawian cichlids. Here are some pix of the tank and our 4 cute little gold calvus.

Very cute! I really want to set up a tank with Tanganyika cichlids. I wish you luck with yours. I actually picked up some Fairy Cichlds today (very pretty fish, you may want to check them out) and I am going to put them in with my yellow labs and a very peaceful peacock. We'll see how it goes, but I guess it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if I had to set up another tank with Tanganyika cichlids

You are going to have to set up a species only tank with Neolamprologus brichardi. They are really aggressive. They have them here at our lfs all the time.

I am not exactly sure. . They only get 6" when adults, they are 2" now. Tanganyika cichlids are new for us.
I found this article with some info

Thanks for the link!
So I read that they are slow growers, which would be a good thing if you only have a small 30g tank for example. The article went on to say that at two years they can reach 2.5 inches and be ready for spawning.
It sounds like they would be a good fish for someone just starting out, tho it stressed the importance of water quality and keeping the temperature balanced during water changes, as they do not tolerate temperature changes well.
thanks again!

Nice set-up you got there Allie!
I've had black calvus in the past and I agree they are slooooow growers yet great jumpers. Watch out on every little hole they can go thru. I had 1 jumped out of the teeny tiny hole thru the heater. I never thought he'd get thru but he did it somehow. When finally found him, it's bone dry. He was the biggest of 4 and I felt really bad as they don't come in cheap. So make sure there's no way out for them.

Oh & they breed like Convicts. FYI
I really wanted some too. But did research spoke to a few people who are keeping them. I like a tank which can have more than one species...so they were out. But there are lots of other Tangs, if you can find the species you like in your area. I haven't seen much around here.
