New Black neons

I just got these guy today. Since I can not tell one from the other, I call them the Collective. I am going to one more to make 5.

Sometime after it get warm here I am going to get 4 corys of some sort. I asked the guys at my LFS what kind of corys he could get me and he said about 30 different kinds! I have my work cut out for me, trying to pick the kind I want.

Wow, those look good, Andy. Infact, those pictures are so good that I told Dino that I want some.

Congrats.

Those are beauties! I've not seen black neons at any fish stores. Where did you find yours?

My small LFS. Its not a chain store, its a mom and pop store. They have been in business for over 25 years.

They get there fish from local and national breeders. I do not think they get ANY fish from overseas. PLUS the owner gave me some credit for the 3 platites that I took back,I bought to many.

Those are nice. They had some at the Petland here when I got the ghost shrimp, sword plant and 2 angels. They looked pretty cool. I can't remember how much they were though.

Sounds like the kind of LFS we all want near us.

I thought the same thing when I got my neons, but don't worry, you'll eventually be able to tell them apart like you tell apart people.
Nice photos by the way.

Black Neons (Hyphessobrycon herbertaxelrodi) are great, I've kept them with green neons (Paracheirodon innesi) and angelfish in the 75G before.

I now have 5 of them. I love them. They are so cool to watch. I thought 4 was not a good "school" size,5 was better.

I am thinking about maybe not getting corys,as they get kind of big for my tank(10 gallons), and maybe getting some rummy-noses when it gets warmer here. The LFS does not keep the in stock in the winter months. They do not ship well, most of them die from the stress of shipping or get Ich from to much stress and die.

HI Andy
I also had black neon tetras in my tank at one time. I really liked their personality as you are finding out. They are a great community tank fish to keep. Im thinking of getting more myself! Thanks for the photos...
btw... if you are keeping them in your ten gal tank, with the five you are at your limit. These guys do not stay as small as other neons and can reach two inches in size. But a nicely decorated ten gal with plants whether they are artificial or silk, these guys will shine! literally lol... love the neon reflections on them.
good luck with your lil guys!

Are the black tetras similar to neon tetras?
