You did a good job with the pictures! These may be the best of the lot, but keep posting, they are clear and you have a lovely tank.

If you are planning a new tank for the fish you have now, it would only be a short term investment to get a 55 gallon tank. You should consider saving up for a 125 or bigger! The difference in price is huge, but the cost of a 55 setup will only delay that much longer being able to get a bigger tank. Keep your eyes out for a used larger tank, you should be able to find one complete for under $1,000.

The pics are great!

I have a Jack and Oscar as well. My Oscar is albino. They are currently inhabiting a 40g. We asked Santa for a 125g for Christmas.

My local Petsmart had the tank, stand, filter, heater and some plants and food in a package deal for $810. But adding the rocks (substrate) and some more detailed decor and misc items, you get real close to that $1k range quickly.

Good luck with your tank and future expansion!

Check out www.craigslist.com Bloomington Indiana there are a couple of large tanks for around $600 Looks like a great way to go!

I would love to live in the lower 48 where you could drive anywhere to get a good deal!!!

I would love to have a 125g for a huge community tank. I was going to try and watch the papers for a 55g.....you can usually pick em up for 100-150 bucks(whole setups people lose interest in). I know that is the minimum for a oscar.....i think i would just feel like it a waste of space having that huge of an aquarium for 3 or 4 fish. (125g) I dunno. i guess ill just have to watch the papers and what not to see what the fish gods bless me with. lol

Thanks for the compliments!

It's not the # of fish, but the fish that you have! A big tank with large fish, especially two aggressive fish, can seem full. The bala and pleco (common?) will both get over a foot in length, and also need the space. If you could pick up a 125 for $500.00 it would be well worth it!

PS. check out the "caves for oscars" post it is an eye opener!

Just caught what might have been a catastrophic event. I noticed my Oscar wasnt moving much in the past day....which isnt unusual, he tends to pout after i vacuum. But i fed my morning feeding and no one really ate....which is strange..... i looked at my temp just out of curiousity. to my suprise it was 68-70! ACK! and my pilot light was on.....luckily i had a old heater, which i tested in my hand the other day.....it seems to work. i hope it heats this tank up......I will let you know. grrrr. Dang Wal-mart equipment. GRRR.
