I wasn't able to finish my plans of making my own lava rock cave/terrace due to waiting too long (don't want to do it inside and its already around 30F outside) so I kinda stole the piece of wood I was going to let my future guppies have - the good news is my cories seem to love it Now I think I went a little overboard with the plants - I wanted to try and put as many hiding spots in there as I could while still leaving plenty of swimming room.

Picture was taken before I moved the filter and fish over. Icky camera died right before I was gunna take a few pictures of the cories fighting over the top of the wood. I like how it turned out but is there going to be enough room for the tetras to swim?

Right now its just the one. Went to get some today but the lfs had a sale on otos and the guy told me next week they'll be having a tetra sale with the new shipment.

i think there's enough room for a school of tetras to swim around in there since they're only 1.6" adult size. how many do you plan to get? how many corys & otos?

i had some serpae tetras for a couple of days, and they seem to like swimming in and out of plants...playful little things
have you thought about rummy-nose tetras? they look amazing, and from what i've seen, they shoal better than other tetras

I'm hoping for 6 tetras, 3 cories and 2 otos. I just estimated two inches for the tetras so I feel a little better knowing they only get to be about 1.6" ^^; Might be enough room for another tetra, cory or oto heh.

I wanted to go with live plants and I still do once I can get my hands on some but for now they're all plastic and a few silk.

Actually serpae tetras were on my stocking list before I took the silver tip in. My mother likes the look of the rummy-nose tetras so I'm trying to talk her into getting her own tank. Both are on my list if/when I can ever get a 60g+ tank.

well, 6 tetras, 3 corys and 2 otos will add up to 19.6" adult size. You would have enough room to get 3 otos and be inside the bioload. If you can have 3 of them, i'd definitely recommend that.
