It's not easy -- does your camera have a 'sports' setting (usually indicated by a stick figure that looks like it's running)? That setting forces higher shutter speeds, so you may have a better chance of catching them in action.

That's just when I have the adjustment being done and all you have to do is click and it's there and no questions asked.

I've had the best luck by just taking a lot of pictures. One of them should come out, right? My cameras "Sport" setting makes the pictures come out really dark for some reason so I usually just take a bunch on the "Auto" setting. My biggest problem is getting the focus right. It always tries to focus on the glass when I try to get close ups of tiny creatures in my SW. I have to stand back a ways and use the zoom.

I use 'macro' setting and snap away, keeping the ones i like (not the ones where the fish disappeared *L*)

Maybe try to take the photos when you are feeding your fish so they are concentrating on something else.

Here are the tips I try to use:

Wait until the are asleep.

Wait until they are eatting.

Take the fish out and put them in a small tank/large bowl used specifically for picture taking. (warning this can stress out the fish and some fish change colors when stressed)
