I've had fish tanks for 27 yrs. so I've had or at least seen most of the stuff we have for sale here in Southern CA. This , tho, is the first fish forum Ive gone into. I really want to know more 'cause most of the stuff Ive learned from shopkeepers & a few friends who have owned stores. I had a Bali shark a loooong time ago & thought it was the same, but it has gotten much bigger much faster (CRIPES ) I think 140 gal should be big enough for him (hopefully). I do Have the silver dollars that I dont know the specific type and a lung fish maybe? I call him the loch ness monster. I cant get a good pic. When I do I'll post it. Also I've corrected my sig. info......I'm learning

I doubt that it is a lung fish because it would have probably eaten most of your other fish(mostly rainbows and the smaller fish).

I'll try to describe it,,it's about 5-6" long, has (2) fins behind gills, a spiked top fin that runs down most of it's body, beige in color and at the tail has nubs that look like they use to be legs. Face it too cute, wide frog like mouth and (2) like nostril tubes. He's got a wonderfull disposition,,loves swimming in the bubbles, but doesn't seem to have good eyesight (I have to make sure he gets a chunk of blood worms, but mostly he just cleans up the pieces that fall to the bottom from the other fish attacking the cube. Funny side note:my eel snatched the cubes right out of the silver dollars mouth,,,she's a funny one. ***here's a terrible pic, but thought it may give you an idea***

Tiffany, that'll be interesting to hear the input you can provide since your info came from mostly shop keepers, as you mentioned. So far, most of the info I've seen is book material, but, then again, I'm reading up on marine not fresh, but, somethings are similar.

A huge monster of a fish! They grow at least 9 feet in an aquarium but have been found at 15 feet in the wild, practically a giant arowanna.
Deffinatly sounds like a bichir, google image it, some have continuous spines, others seem to not have it. Might be something with age.

Tiffany,

How is the 140G working for you? I just gave a deposit on a 145G which I'm getting (used) for $150. I get it that it is considered big (and I can't afford anything else ugh!), but, It really just seemed small to me. Maybe its because its a long as opposed to a tall, which I would prefer.

WoW...never saw (1) of those before, it looks like a hefty fish. Mine is definately a birchir. I'm going to look more into it now that I'm home...Happy Friday. I had a busy day..here in So cal we have a couple of interesting crime trends (besides the usual identity theft etc) If any of you (here) have a toyota truck or 4runner people are stealing the catalytic converters and the 3rd row seats are being stolen from the Big SUVs,,especially Tahoes..Just a little info....

Me too...I love show tanks..long and skinny (I know what ur thinking). IT obviously gives the fish a longer distance to swim and you can see more of the decorations...downfall is nothing too big can be put in ( decorations I mean )

I won't and that's the truth...so over populated and too many Bad Guys and they are harder to catch 'cause these friggin' T.V. shows basically tell them how to commit a better crime...It's so discouraging..I could go on for hours. We're only moving to Northern CAli but at least we'll be above the insanilty

LoL, my parents moved us out of Cali all together when we were younger. There's crime everywhere, but this is NOTHING compared to when we lived there.

You have smart parents..it is OUT OF CONTROL here. If it's not the moron drivers,,it's a new crime trend weekly. It's come to a point where you can't leave anything in sight in your car or not have an alarm system on your house etc. And we live in a good area,,In the ghetto,,you can't walk the streets at night without worrying about a drive by. I've lived here on and off my whole life (i'm nearly 40 now) and it has changed soooo much. I think about when I was young and how nice it use to be. It's almost as if our judicial system has made it easier to be a bad guy and hold more responsibility to the good people,,,very frustrating,,but to date (knock on wood) I have never gotten a "Not Guilty" on any of my cases that have gone to court...Cross your t's and dot your I's and someone is going to pay for the wrong they've done!!! oh and be sure you have the evidence to back you!

LoL, I'm sorry to have to even think of you as an expert on that matter. That only means you've gone through it so many times. We used to vacation in Long Beach every year. One year we made a second trip and stayed in Ontario, LOVED THE MALL !!! Where we stayed look so clean and quiet and nice. I was taken aback when I asked the front desk lady how close the nearest gas station was (this was in the bright hours of the early morning) and she told me it was around the corner but recommended not walking there for fear of getting mugged on the way! I could not believe it. I took her advice, but, wow, I didn't realize how scary the area was since it looked so nice.
