Thanks to all.

I have some java moss/fern, vals, onion plants, Crinum calamistratum, Aponogeton ulvaceus, Riccia fluitans, duckweeds, watersprite, Microsorum pteropus, and a few others I forgot the names. So far the gold showed no interest on either the plants or the fry (bn plecos, guppies & platies).

I used to have 14 discus in this tank but the plants weren't like this.

Yes very nice, I love the wood as a center peice, you should grow a very thin skim of moss on it in a few places it would look sweet with some old growth moss look to it.

Thanks everyone for all the nice compliments...

I was thinking of that as it would be really nice but with a moss growth in that wood though, all my plecos might have a hard time at it. I have a breeding pair of BNs in there and their fry, a Mango pleco, a red spot bristlenose and a pair of albino long-finned BN and I fear they might have a hard time getting into the wood if covered with moss. But I might still try it and see what happens.

I only have a double 6' fluorescent tubes both 85watts nothing else. No special additives/ferts nor CO2 added to it.

Nice tank and Mango Plec. Love the wood, did it come like that or have the plecs "sculpted" it like that? I have a soft spot for plecs too

LOL.. I don't do any of that. But that's what happens when a hobbyist always get his/hands in the tank.

I got it from Tom last year.

It was like that when I got it. In the middle there's a place for my plecos to breed. I knew it's a good hiding spot for plecos but never thought they would successfully breed in the big tank. I got 1 batch of babies already and I believe a second batch are soon to come.

In this tank I have:
- 5" gold severum
- 20 rummy nose tetra
- 2 neon tetras
-17 white cloud mountain minnows
- 2 albino long-finned bristlenose
- regular bristlenose plecos and their new babies
- mango pleco
- a breeding trio corydoras sterbai
- breeding pair of platies & babies
- breeding pair of swordtails
- guppies

The guppies will be going out soon and I might sell the gold severum not that he terrorizes everybody in the tank but cause he doesn't come out in the open. He's the only biggest fish in this tank but he's a scaredy fish.

Try getting him a mate. I had a breeding, mature pair and they were not only always out and about, but would come and eat from my hands.

I think it is but not 100% sure as I forgot the name. It grows really fast so a weekly trimming is necessary.


I was thinking about that but then they might start tearing the plants apart once they start breeding and eat my baby bristlenose plecos. I have a breeding pair in this tank and I really don't want the babies to become munchies.

Thanks! I agree and sometimes when you can't keep up with the weekly trimmings, it can really take over the whole tank. However, with lots of babies (guppies, platies & bristlenose plecos) it gives them all kinds of protection and more chances to survive. I still need some other kinda big leafy plant in there for the egg layers.

have you checked at plantgeeks to see what plants would be what you need? do you have a good local source for plants?

LOL, how does your Pleco sit in your hand and won't move, and will just let you take a picture? That's so cool If I took my Golden Algae Eater in my hands, he'd go nuts, probably jump out, and make a big mess on my floor! LOL
