Hi Frogger and welcome to Fish Lore
Another member asked me the same question, so here is a copy of my reply: "LOL, it's probably the cheapest Nikon camera there is (Nikon D40), but even cheapest DSLR ("digital single lens camera") cameras are a heaven better than regular digital cameras. I just bought it recently (because I've had enough of my old crappy camera) and I am still learning how to use it (not such a simple device at all, but once you've mastered it, you cat shoot great photos). What sets the "lens" cameras apart are precisely the
lens. And it's not really the DSLR cameras that are this expensive, but the lenses themselves. The better the lens, the more expensive it is. You can change lenses in one DSLR camera to your liking. Ex. using special lenses for shots of tiny objects (telephoto lens), or wide-angle lens for beautiful landscape shots

... Also, when you're taking pictures with this camera, you can adjust the contrast, vividness, tone, lightness, darkness, sharpness, etc ... of the pictures. So you can have your pictures coming out totally colorful or totally dull - whatever you like."
