I really have no comments other than GREAT setup Are these 2 Dwarf Gouramis or one? They both look beautiful. Or is it one just looking differently on each picture? Also, you did a good job with not overstocking. I like it when people do their research before setting up a tank, which you evidently did very well. A nice combination of fish too: Gourami, 6 Neons (as they should be: in schools), and 3 Otos You still have space there if you ever wanted to add another fish. I think a companion for the Gourami would fill out the set up nicely. If your Gourami is a male, you could get it a nice girlfriend, ya know

Thanks everybody! suprisingly, thats the same gourami! in one picture, he just looks a little different from the lighting. Over the last couple days with him, hes really warming up to me, and will now eat right out of my hand! Also is a good way to get him for a good picture cause he comes right up to me!

Isabella, do you think that a female gourami would be alright for the tank? what are the chances of them mating? Also, one of my 2 otos has dark stripes, while the other one is a paler color. Does this mean ones a boy and ones a girl?

Well, lol, I don't think fish are like humans: choosing "mates" based on their looks, intellectual/mental/psychological compatibility, "something else" compatibility (lol), and what-not. Humans look at many factors when choosing the right "mates". But I don't exactly think this is the case with fish. I think if you get a female (and you already have a male, I presume), then they should just pair up without any problems, since they're opposite sex. They won't be in any Gouramis group, but just the 2 of them, so they'll be each other's "only option", lol. And I guess when they see each other, their natural instincts will simply take over. That's what I'd think. When I bought my 2 Angelfish, they were still young and I didn't know their sex, but when they grew up it turned out they're male and female, and they paired up without any problems. I think as long as you have 1 male and 1 female, they should become a pair. A male and female are less likely to fight with each other than 2 males for example.

I've never had Otos before, and don't know how you recognize male from female. But it's the case that in many species of fish, males are usually more colorful than females. So maybe it's the same with Otos?

thanks for your help! my next purchese will be a female dwarf gourami, and possible a ghost shrimp! any other suggestions for fish? im trying to keep the tank pretty understocked though

My prized dwarf gourami found his reflection in the glass this morning, and has been swimming with his reflection since i woke up! im a little worried that he wont stop thinking theres another fish!

i had 3, but the 2nd day of having them 1 passed away . im still concerned about there eating, because my tank doesnt hav much algea. i havent seen them eat the cucumber or algea wafers yet, but they seem happy and love to play together! i think they might of paired up!

8 neon tetras = approx. 12" ( 1.5" x 8 )
2 dwarf gouramis = approx. 5" ( 2.5" x 2 )
3 otos = approx. 6" ( 2" x 3 )
TOTAL = 23"

(I gave the maximum sizes, the fish are usually smaller than that. You're probably making it within 20". But ... you ever know, right?)

If I were you, I'd end my stocking with the 2nd Dwarf Gourami (the mate for your current Gourami). Besides, your tank is already looking GREAT with the 8 neons, soon-to-be 2 dwarf gouramis, and 3 otos. Very nice combination. I would neither add nor subtract anything from the current setup.

yea that was the 2nd one, right now im slightly understocked , with 7 neons 2 dwarfs and 2 otos

where did you get your gouramis..iv never seen any like that in person...i iv seen the noen dwarf gouramis with the tealish blue color but never the redish oranges. ther beautifull fish
