What do you think of my fish tank... Complete beginner...

Hey everyone...

I'm just worried that all the different kinds of fish in my tank will not get along with each other... Any advice or tips??

Thanks....

Re: What do you think of my fish tank... Complete beginner...

The only two concerns that I can come up with are as follows:
#1, you have goldfish (or koi) mixed with tropical species. While these two can survive an amazingly wide range of temperatures, they're happier in an unheated tank.

#2, I saw at least one pretty big fish, I think it was a koi. I think I saw at least one other member of the carp family. These fish are very dirty critters. They produce something like seven times the waste of a normal fish their size. You're going to want to watch your ammonia/nitrite/nitrate levels very carefully, and do water changes as needed.

I also see quite a lot of problems. Besides what sirdarksol said, you have what looks like iridescent sharks in your tank, which get well over a foot and really should not be kept in home aquaria because of their needs. You also have tiger barbs which need around 6 or more to keep their aggression down.

Can you tell us about your tank?
how big?
all the fish that are in it?
How long have you had it?

welcome to fishlore! i wish i could say it's all looking good, but i think SDS hits on the main concerns that i have about the tank looking at those 2 pics.. mainly goldfish and tropical fish together and overcrowding, perhaps extreme overcrowding depending on how big the tank is. The general rule with fish is a gallon per adult inch, although species like goldfish, plecos, carp and others need more room because the put out so much waste and some species like plecos, oscars and other large fish need more room to allow for swimming area.
