Well, my husband brought home some nice red river rocks from the job site and we made a cave out of some and redecorated the tank. Im happy with the results and now waiting on the finished cycle and hopefully on saturday we will be picking up some fish to go in here! What do you think of it so far? ~ kate
before and after....
Very beautiful! It's alway nice to find things for the tank instead of having to buy them at the lfs. how's your cycle coming along?
good morning! thank you.. Well i will be testing the water today to see how the cycle is coming along. Im hoping to have it cycled by this weekend. Last tests results showed ammonia 0; nitrate 40; and nitrite 2.0 . Have to see the nitrite go to 0, and the nitrates to lower to at least a 10 before I can bring in any fish.
keeping my fingers crossed! should be any day now... Thanks for asking! ~ kate
Good morning... and thank you! I plan on picking up two discus on saturday that are on hold for me, that is if its done cycling by then. I plan on having Discus fish, and a large school of cardinal tetras in there. Trying to find out what other fish get along with the discus so that I can have a little variety in the tank.
Thank you! Im having fun with this tank.. tho im feeling alittle overwhelmed with the size and the thought of adding those sensitive discus fish. But going to give it my best try!
ahh humm... and just HOW many bettas would you be able to put in that 55g tank with dividers eh?
actually, it would make a wonderful growout tank for the mahachai betta on the next spawn. but i'd say 5 or 6 bettas at least with dividers.
I do like the idea of a huge mahachai tank! Its so nice to see that some bettas can be in the same tank! id love to be able to find some mahachais in my area without having to have them shipped!

yea, if you were near denver, i could set you up with either the males or females.
Yeh.. thats too bad. Im confused... are you in denver or florida?? Or is that just where you get your mahachai's from?
we live in FL now but will be moving to Denver. After the move is when we'll do a 2nd spawning of our Mahachai. They've been flirting like crazy but will just have to wait.

Ohh Denver will be so nice! but now you will have to get used to the cold and snow!!
lol.. actually i'm not real big on the NBA but i did get to be a fan of the Avalanche when i was out there before.. and since i'd be mostly seeing nuggets games, i guess i should get to like them.
Kate...great tank, I can hardly wait to see it when you get those special fish situated. I was sitting watching tv the other night and just out of the blue saw a spot in the room that could easily accomodate a big tank on a stand......... :...........and I could have mixed fish...............now, what about the water problems when the tanks aren't close to a sink? Do you just haul it in buckets?
I haven't told my hubby of this idea yet...................when my cycling tank has done its thing and my bettas will be all settled into their forever homes...................Regards, Val

Hi Val,
how goes the cycling? I hope its coming along,, I haven't seen any responses in your topic lately Ohhh the Discus are doing great! I'm so excited about having them. We ended up getting three. There were three at the LFS and have been together for a month there. I didn't have the heart to just take two and leave one all alone...So we now have the three here. They didn't have any cardinal tetras so they have ordered them for us from a breeder and we will be picking them up on Wednesday.
You can see the photos of the Discus in the species section, under Discus photos. I also have a topic under Discus in the forum showing a few more photos. Will wait til they really settle in before I attempt to do a youtube video of them.
As far as water changes, yes, we haul 5 gal buckets into the living room from the kitchen. I say WE loosely lol.. as its my husband that brings out the tank water buckets and carries in the clean water buckets. Good luck with your betta tank... and really hope that it cycles soon for you! Please post under your topic so that we can be up to date on your progress there!
take care, ~ kate

thanks! My tank is now cycled and we added the discus fish on saturday. You can check out the photos over under the fish species for cichlids, then click on the discus and under the discus section of the forum you will see them under the DISCUS PHOTOS that is at the top of the page. And in that section also is a topic that I posted on my new discus.
have a great evening! ~ kate
cool.. i don't roam the discus forum since we've not had any, but i'll have to go over and check those out.. you've got to stop posting in the right place or i won't have any mod stuff to do..

LOL well i try to post in the right places!.. sometimes i get it right I really like that lil guy at the bottom of the photo too. I havent named them yet, hubby says.. why not curly mo and larry... Im like nah... I need more dignified gentle names. I havent seen a photo of any discus that look like that lil guy and Im waiting on to see what kind of true colors or markings it will have. If it stays the way it is now, its fine with me, I think its a great color. And its the only one out of the three that doesnt have the red eyes. Im keeping my fingers crossed that I will do right by these fish and they will survive for a long time! Thanks for stopping by to check them out!
