wanting to add new fish

I have a 10 gal tank. I have two glofish, two ADFs, and a pleco. I had a betta in there but he passed on to a new life. :( I want to add a couple guppies. Is this safe for all my other fish? Specially my pleco, he's my baby! Also, might be a stupid questions, how do you breed fish? Never heard of such a thing. Guess I just thought fish magically had babies. LOL! Thanks all!

Welcome to FishLore
I'm sorry to hear about your betta.
What kind of pleco do you have? Most species get too big for your size tank.
Without knowing what kind, I'd say no to anymore fish. Plecos are big waste producers.
Even though it looks like you have room for more fish, you have to take into consideration how much waste they create not just the size of the fish.

I don't breed fish, however, it depends on what type of fish you want to breed.
The ADF's if male and female will breed with no coaxing or conditioning. Guppies and mollies are quick breeders. Others you have to condition them or provide the correct environment for them. And of course, you'd need males and females.
Usually, you'd need a breeders box or net for the fry/eggs or they'll get eaten by their parents.
Then you'd need a grow out tank until they get bigger.

Good luck! Post some pics when you get a chance

Hello and Welcome to FishLore!

IMO you don't have anymore room in that tank.....due to the pleco. What kind of pleco is he? Some plecos grow to about 6" as others grow such as the common pleco/sail fin get quit large. A 10 gallon isn't big enough for any pleco....IMO Are you planning on upgrading to a bigger tank? If not, it would be a good idea. Plecos are huge waste producers, as he gets bigger more waste.

I don't breed fish so can't help you there.
Glofish are a schooling fish and are happier in a group of 5 or more. I wouldn't put guppys in with glofish especially since you only have 2, they may be nippy. Besides guppys are more slower as glofish are so active but your tank is overstocked as is.

just keep males and females in the same tank and its bound to happen. guppies are really easy to breed

I agree with the above posters as well. The tank is way overstocked as is, especially with the pleco in it. I had a pleco in my 29g tank and had to give him back to the pet store because he got to large for the tank and I was unable to afford a larger tank.

I would never ask you to return the pleco, but as long as he is in the tank adding more fish is definitely unadvisable.
