attacked fish

Hello, my danio got attacked by a killifish. Most of the fins are missing and I think there is some flesh showing. I'm just wondering what I can do to help ward off disease. Also, what can I make to put the danio in part of the tank for the night? Thanks!

Aww, poor thing. It would be a good idea to put him in a Q tank, keep the water warm and pristine. Some extra stress coat Garlic Guard and Fish Protector.
You might want to try some Melafix (as long as he's put in a separate tank than the betta)
If you don't have a q tank, you can use clean (never seen soap or chemical rubbermaid tote, just add a heater & filter or airstone)
If you don't have an extra heater, do you have a breeder box that you can float in the tank?

Good luck.

I put him in a little container you buy a betta in. he is floating on the top of the tank, so the temperature should saty the same. I have stress coat, but not garlic guard or melafix. I might have some garlic, should I mash one and put a tiny bit in? Also, would salt help anything? Thanks!! Lucy!

I wouldn't add salt either, but members have different opinions about it.
The floating container is a good idea. Be sure to change his water often.
If he seems scared put a little java moss or a plant in there so he feels secure.
You might be able to get some juice out of the clove of garlic, do you have a garlic press?
I use the juice from minced garlic in a jar.

Okay, I minced the garlic and put in around 2 drops of the garlic. I'll put in around a drop or two of the stress coat before bed. Anything else I can do to help him? Thanks a lot Lucy and MB295

If you cut thin slits in the container it will allow the oxygenated/filtered water to circulate between the small container and the main tank. That way the ammonia won't build up so fast. I wouldn't do the salt, but if you can put him in something completely separate from the betta, then Melafix is a pretty good all around healer.

Hello fbn. Sorry to hear about your attacked fish. Garlic is an excellent immune system booster. (Not just for fish but humans as well.) Keep your water as pristine as possible. Please don't add any salt.
Best wishes for a full recovery.

Thanks everyone. I think he is too beat up to live. I'll keep going doing this stuff though. His skin seams to kind of have that look a dead fish if you know what I mean?

I'm really sorry.
Are you sure it was the killi?

Yup....I was playn ps2 and I saw an orange thing in it's mouth. So, I got the net and he coughed him up. It's not that the killifish is a vicious predator. He was just a little bit too small I guess. they are fine with my other fish. I'll make sure I don't get any small fish like that again! Oh, and by the way Lucy, my betta is doing VERY well. Also, he and the 2 rams get along fine. He chases the rams a little bit, but not bad at all. Well, the ram can swim a lot faster than a betta with huge fins I guess anyways . They seem to go along fine though! No sighns of agression or territorial from the rams though. Thanks everyone!

I'm glad to hear things are going well, excpet for your danio, of course.
I've heard killis can be kind of mean.

Yup, I think they are striped panchax, which are supposedly rare I have read. I'm not totally sure though, because in the middle of their caudal fin the fin goes out and kind of makes a box....Which I can't seem to find and pictures on google of any killis like that.
