| Species recomendation? I am still waiting to see how the tanks inhabitants settle over the next few weeks, but right now, the Danios are trouble.
They dominate any and all food I put in the tank. They steal bloodworms from the panchax, they eat the corys aglae wafers, they destroy any flake food before other fish get to them. They eat until they all look pregnant and I am afraid my more timid fish are going hungry. Also, they are constantly darting about chasing one another. I also see them spar (i assume thats what it is) by lining up next to one another facing opposite directions, striking at each other, and then doing it again. I have watched the pearl gourami quietly go hide when the danios are going crazy.
I have considered trying to catch them, and bring them back to the store. If I go this route, is there a species suggestion to replace them? I would like a smaller schooling fish, but preferably a little less wild and rambunctious.
Or, do you think I have nothing to worry about? Last edited by jprime84; October 13th, 2009 at 02:02 PM.

| If you really like them you can feed them during the night and hopefully it'll equal out the food distribution. Other wise get some tetra species. |

| What about Cardinal Tetras? The other condition is that they cannot be fin nippers. |

| Do you think it would be best to move my other fish to another tank while I chase the danios around? I dont want to stress them too badly. |

| You're tank looks awesome, but as those pearls grow they will quickly run out of swimming room. If I had that tank I'd keep the fish small. I think 12 neons would be a great addition. |

| Good Luck as I have tried to catch a lone danio, I ended up getting another one to keep him company because I could not catch it. You can target feed the danios on one side and feed everyone on the other. Thats how I do it. |

| Well, I was able to catch 4 of the 5 danios. After they were out of the tank the pearls almost immediately came out from their hiding spots. They even fed some which relieved me. I couldnt catch the 5th, but as he was the smallest of the bunch I decided he could just stay. He never was one of the boisterous ones.
On a downer, I found my lone otocinclus dead on the bottom. He appeared fine besides being dead, color was good, no injuries, no visible signs. I checked my water and there are no nitrites or ammonia, pH and temp are good. Who knows....
I took the danios to the store and traded them in for pristella tetras. They are a little smaller than the danios, but not so small as to look apetizing to the gourami or the panchax. Also, they seem to actually school. I also got a true siamese algae eater to replace the oto.
As far as outgrowing the tank, I am aware that my dudes will grow some, and although I never expect the tank to be ultra crowded, I should have a larger tank by the time that happens. |
