Community Angelfish

I have a new 55g tank cycling and was thinking about having an Angelfish as a centerpiece. I want to have an angel, a school of corys, a BN pleco and a pair of GBR or Bolivian Rams once the tank is settled. That is only about 30" of fish fully grown so I have plenty of room for some kind of schooling fish. My LFS had a nice stock of cherry barbs and I was wondering if they are large enough to keep off the angels dinner menu?

Thanks,
Nate

That sounds like a PERFECT stocking list!!. I keep gold barbs with my angels and they do great. I also keep cories with them and a BN will work perfectly. My Angels are full grown and they do great with even ottos...I'm exciting to see your tank, The bolivan rams should do just fine too!!!. I've never kept them because of my hard water but they are compatiable with all the fish you have listed. Some Angles can get super aggressive but for the most part they are fairly laid back, for a cichlid that is..lol...Good luck and keep us posted.

Thanks for the insight! I also have very hard water where I live. My LFS said they breed all their fish themselves or get them from local breeders. They seem to have no problems with either GBR's or Bolivians in hard water so I am hopeful I will be able to keep them.

Wecome to Fishlore if I have not already welcomed you. Sounds like a great plan to me!!! Everybody on here loves pics so be prepared you will be asked many times for them. Cesch is right angels are pretty laid back for a cichlid....unless you get a pair LOL. Do keep us posted and good luck!!!

Welcome to Fishlore! Fabulous Stocking List. Everyone you've listed is compatible.

I have two bolivian rams (in separate tanks) and I love them!

Sounds like a great stocking list! Actually it sounds very familiar to me... oh sounds like my tank. I can't offer any advice on cherry barbs because I've never had them. I'd suggest rummy nose tetras. I love mine!

Welcome to the site.
Just a heads up for ya, throw that 1" per fish per gallon deal out the window, it really doeasn't work and isn't needed with cichlids.

Your stocking should work, the cherry barbs should be ok also.
