a great fish day indeed

well, some of you may have read about my total score on clear-out fish products at petcetera the other day. well today, as you may have also seen, i did it again. and on top of that, i made a total score of a trade with a fellow hobbyist in the area.

this person posted on a local fish forum that they were looking for plants and wanted to trade for "1 gourami and 7 tetras"

i always have cuttings so i thought it was a pretty sweet deal for me. I went over there this afternoon with 20 ludwigia cuttings and a ball of java moss and got the fish.

after posting on here i have identified the two i was unsure of. my score today was:

2 black skirt tetras - one has fin damage

2 x-ray pristella tetra - am i spelling that right?

a serpae tetra

a bleeding heart tetra

a honey sunset gourami

and a long finned zebra danio - not a tetra at all! the long finned leopard danios went nuts when he came into the tank and got all excited. they zipped around and around in circles having a blast

the gouramis are getting along. i have a pearl and a paradise in that tank already. i love watching their behaviour. the three gouramis grouped together and kind of swam around each other in a circle...almost like dogs sniffing each other. then the new one followed the pearl around for ages. they are all getting along well. i hope the black skirt tetras fins heal quickly.

Congratulations!

This is a wonderful "scoring" weekend for you! AND you provided more fish with a good, caring, happy home. They are so lucky!

that tank is SO busy right now. im maxed out. about 46" of fish in the 55 gallon not counting the plecos. GAH! they are 3 and 4 inches now...but that wont last. and all the snails.
well, its over filtered and heavily planted. i will increase the water changes and hope it stays stable.

Inches of fish is irrelevant. The plecos add a large bioload; the rest of your fish do not. Do you have plans for them when they start to get larger?

Congrats on the new pickups. They look nice and healthy.

when the plecos get bigger we will rehome one for sure. my favourite local fish store takes them and finds homes for them.

Wow, that's really nice of them. A lot of LFSs won't take big plecos, it's cool that yours tries to find them homes.

You never know with all the plants. You must have Green Thumb.

If pair of black tetra spawned on first night of being moved, not only they were ready but moving from one tank to another may have triggered such spwaning, (Change in water chemistry from old tank to new tank). Use that trick for most egg scatterers. Of course, you have to conditioned them well if wants healthy batch of frys.

Good Luck!
